October was a great month for making. I also visited the Knit & Stitch Show which is one of my favourite days out. Read on to see what I’ve made this month.
What I made October 2025
At the start of the month we picked up the ceramic pumpkins we made at our local pottery cafe last month. They turned out really well and have been on display ever since.
Earlier in the month I made my annual trip to the Knit & Stitch Show, went fabric shopping and attended three totally different craft workshops. The chance to try a new craft is always fun, and I met some lovely people too. You can read about my crafty day out here.
We went to Whitstable for a weekend and I took the pretty Christmas banner embroidery, which was a cover gift with Love Embroidery magazine, with me. I stitched it quickly and made the banner when I got home. I love a little project with instant results.
Whilst in Kent we used our National Trust membership to visit Ightham Mote in Kent. This is a romantic medieval moated manor house stuffed full of treasures. The gardens were still full of flowers and autumnal trees and we loved exploring the house. They had a small display dedicated to two paintings by the artist John Singer Sargent: the Palmer family enjoying a game of bowls in the garden and a preparatory oil of their daughter, Elsie Palmer. This was in preparation for his large-scale masterpiece Lady in White, which depicts Elsie seated in a silk dress set against the linenfold panelling of Ightham Mote. The white silk dress was on display and was absolutely beautiful.
I also loved the hand stitched labels at Ightham Mote, asking people not to touch the objects on display. Such a lovely touch and they fitted in well with the atmosphere of the historic house.
The main item my hands have been making this month is my Pretty Fabrics and Trims Christmas Countdown, a large festive themed sampler, featuring a countdown to Christmas with a different stitched picture for each day. This month I stitched 6 motifs and it’s looking lovely. I can’t wait to carry on stitching next month!
