What I made in May 2025

Where did May go? Time for a monthly update!

What I made in May 2025

I’m working my way through my craft stash and thought it was about time I made the MakeBox Modern English Paper Piecing Ladybird which was released in June 2023. I enjoy English Paper Piecing but usually stick with hexagons, diamonds or simple shapes. This kit has really been testing my patience!

I wanted to use the finished ladybird on a banner and it just about fits. So far I have made half of the ladybird and have set it aside for now. Some of the EPP are very unusual shapes and I have been basting each one as I didn’t find the glue method worked well. I swapped out the plain pink fabric for some pretty Michelle E Tana Lawn from Liberty as I love adding a splash of Liberty fabric to my makes.

I finished the Cotton Clara Hoop Club Box 10 which was designed by Annie Dornan Smith and released in June 2021 (oh my I have been holding on to this one for a while now!). For some reason I had stitched one flower then put it away. It was quite fun to stitch even though it was pretty much all backstitch.

I raided my daughter’s hama bead box to make a set of gingham coasters. So relaxing to make and mess free too.

We made a visit to the Liberty Patchwork House at Liberty London on Great Marlborough Street. It was amazing to see all the patchwork squares which had been contributed and gave us some inspiration too.

My daughter and I made our own wax melts and painted wax melt burners at Wick and Ceramic, our local pottery cafe. This was the same place we went for our mini jelly cat inspired clay workshop a few weeks ago. My daughter is already planning our next workshop!

I also got out an old Craftpod subscription box from Summer 2019 to work on. The design by Emillie Ferris features a gorgeous bee and marigolds and I’ve picked it up a couple of times but never made much progress. As I like to work on seasonal projects I thought it would be good to complete this hoop, and free up some space in my craft room. Craftpod are bringing back their quarterly subscription from the 1st June which is fantastic news as it’s one of my favourite subscription boxes.

I really appreciate hearing how you involve your daughter in creative projects too. It’s such a sweet reminder to slow down and make space for crafting together.
