Mollie Makes crochet flower garland

Every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new with each of them.

Mollie Makes crochet flower garland

Issue 70 of Mollie Makes came with a crochet flower garland kit – 3mm crochet hook, dark pink yarn, green yarn, yellow yarn, pink yarn and orange yarn. My heart sank a little when I saw it as I am only in the early stages of learning how to crochet and this kit was far too difficult for me. So do you know what I did? I sent it to my mum!

My mum can do any craft. She can knit, crochet, sew and is always inspiring me to try new things. Unfortunately she lives far away so I couldn’t pop round for a crochet lesson but she kindly made the flowers and leaves when I told her what I wanted to make.

I liked the idea of a flower garland but I really wanted to make an autumnal wreath. So I bought a florist’s wire wreath which I then covered in brown wool. Both my children helped me with this as it’s a great task for improving fine motor skills!

Then I arranged the crochet flowers and leaves as I wanted them and stitched them in place. Now the weather has turned from our mini heatwave to torrential rain I feel ready to embrace autumn.
