Jenny Makes Mollie Makes Patchwork Project Book

I am so late with this post but I have only just finished it! Regular readers will know that every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new.

Issue 65 of Mollie Makes included 30 floral fabric pieces and a Mollie Makes Patchwork Project Book containing 5 projects to make with the fabric. The projects were for coasters, a floral hair bow, headphones pouch, mini patchwork potholder and a starburst sampler.

I love patchwork so picked the starburst sampler as it used diamonds to create a lovely geometric design. I’m getting behind on making a new piece of art every month for my quilt gallery wall so thought I would make a starburst into a mini quilt.

I used three different pieces of yellow fabric from the Hello Stella range. I won a bundle of fat quarters last year and have used them in lots of projects ever since.

For some reason this project seemed to take for ever. It grew so slowly – if you follow me on Intagram you might have seen me chart my progress. My sewing tin came everywhere with me and still the progress was slow!

I followed the instructions to make the 8 parts of the Starburst Sampler.

Finally, over the weekend (and when I had finished my NanaCompany swap) I was able to sew everything together. Once this happened it was a lot quicker to finish.

I used a pretty print for the top and more Dear Stella for the back. I made my own binding from the solid yellow Dear Stella fabric. It’s already up on my quilt gallery wall but I may get it down and add some top stitching at some point. For now, I’m just happy it’s finished so I can make something else!
