Making Autumn decor with the Autumn Craftpod

As soon as the kids went back to school I couldn’t help thinking how to bring some Autumn vibes into our house. I found some sweet Autumnal candles in Primark which I bought and squirreled away for a few weeks. Now we’re in October I feel like I can bring out my pumpkin candles, and we have conkers and acorns which the kids have picked up on our walks.

I love my makes to be seasonal. We’ve made delicious gingerbread biscuits and I was delighted when my Autumn Craftpod box landed on the doormat. This is a quarterly subscription box which usually contains two craft projects. This month there was an autumnal hoop made with applique and embroidery. I’m not sure I’ve made anything with this much applique before but it was fun! I spent a happy Sunday afternoon cutting out paper templates and pieces of fabric for my fabric collage.

I made quite a mess but it was very therapeutic 🙂

I cut out a selection of autumnal items, from a basket to figs, mushrooms, leaves and apples. Then I arranged them within the hoop and began to applique them in place.

It was a bit like a puzzle, trying to squeeze everything within the frame. I really loved the little figs and added some tiny raspberries with some French knots in any leftover spaces.

It’s such a cute little hoop and the colours are perfect for Autumn. I find it quite hard to display my finished hoops so I bought a wooden hoop stand (more of a mini easel!) from Cloud Craft so I can display it on my desk.

The second project was a little zip-up purse with pre-printed fabric. As much as I love a challenge I’m a little stuck with this. The instructions are all to stitch it by hand, whereas I’d much rather use my sewing machine. I’m hoping to play around with it today.

The forage themed hoop inspired me so much that I decided to get out the Autumn 2021 Craftpod box as I never made the Autumn Landscape embroidery hoop which came in it. The hoop featured pretty rosehips and silver birch trunks and it only took me a few hours to stitch. I’ll need to invest in another hoop stand so I can display it!
