Jenny Makes Mollie Makes Papercut Book

Every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more. I’ve been making more time for crafting and I love to try something new with each of the cover gifts.

Mollie Makes Papercut Book

Issue 63 came with a really cool Mollie Makes Papercut Book. I love paper craft and I was so excited to see this. I enjoyed making the last paper gems kit from the last issue, there’s just something lovely about working with such an everyday item as paper to create something wonderful.

I’ve had a little bit of experience of cutting paper before. You may remember I attended the launch of the Handmade Fair and tried my hand at paper cutting with Poppy Chancellor and Kirstie Allsopp. I also went to a paper cutting workshop with my sister at the Handmade Fair last September.

My husband recently bought me my very own Swann-Morton scalpel and I have a self healing cutting mat which was all I needed to try the Mollie Makes Papercut Book. The book contains 21 designs to make cards, a banner, or frame.

I wasn’t feeling confident so started with the paper gems. First I tried using a metal ruler to make sure I had straight lines. This wasn’t very successful so I tried free hand, much better. Before I knew it I had 6 pretty paper gems. I’ve hung these up with some bakers twine and washi tape.

Then I tried the Creativity Takes Courage paper cut. I knew this would look great in a frame. This was a little trickier but really didn’t take too long to cut out.

I felt like I was whizzing through the designs and cut out the little bunny as well as the Shoot for the Stars design which I’m going to make into a card. I’ve just started on the floral garlands which have stumped me a little. There are few straight lines!
