Mollie Makes Dachshund Brooch Kit

Every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new. I’ve been terrible lately, the last few kits haven’t been very inspiring but I did want to make the latest one.

Issue 74 Mollie Makes Dachshund Brooch Kit

The Mollie Makes Dachshund Brooch Kit was designed by Alina Bunaciu of Hana Letters. The kit contained everything needed to make it: yellow, pink, blue, purple, cream, brown, dark brown and light pink felt; 1x gold coloured brooch pin; 1x sharp sewing needle and embroidery thread.

I love working with felt and really wanted to make this kit. I made sure to pack this in my bag when we visited my mum and made it one evening whilst watching rubbish Christmas tv.

It was quite simple to put together until it came to the little coloured coat. I had a template but when I cut it up I kind of forgot which shape went where!

I kept moving the shapes around until they fit, then trimmed some pieces and took a photo to help me remember what piece went where.

I stitched it all in place and finished it off with eyes, a nose and a little tag on his collar.

I was really disappointed with my lack of sewing in December so this made up for it in a tiny way. The next issue of Mollie Makes is already waiting for me and contains a scary looking Jersey Yarn Macrame Kit – will it get made?
