felt flower wreath kit

Mollie Makes Felt Florals Wreath Kit

Posted on July 10, 2017 by jenny

Every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new.

I skipped last month’s cover gift (issue 79) as it was a set of buttons and a booklet of ideas. I didn’t find them particularly inspiring and couldn’t come up with a way of using them so they’ve been added to my button stash.

Issue 80 contained a Felt Flower Wreath Kit which looked more appealing.

The kit contained a 13cm blue plastic hoop, three different coloured die-cut felt, ribbon, thread and a needle. The pattern was inside the magazine.

The first thing I did was to remove the felt cut outs from the sheets. I didn’t think the felt was very good quality or cut well, unfortunately it pulled slightly out of shape when I removed it and left lots of fibres.

Then I started putting the first flower together following the instructions. They weren’t too hard to follow although I found they were very over simplified as usual. The kit makes 3 flowers – a poppy, anenome and peony – which are them stitched around the hoop.

The flowers came together quite quickly, I just struggled finding the time to set aside for sewing as life is so busy at the moment. When I had finished the three flower I attached them to the hoop with a few extra stitches. It makes a really pretty floral hoop and I’m so glad I made the time for it.

This is absolutely gorgeous! It’s just the kind of craft project I would have loved when I was her age – heck I’d still love it now I’m 30 haha! x

This is a brilliant challenge! I used to have a drawer full of unopened kits too, I gave them all away when I was decluttering, but the few I did make I loved!
