Flower Granny Square tutorial

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Posted on July 6, 2024July 28, 2024 by jenny

Crochet is a great craft. There’s nothing more satisfying than creating something out of a ball of yarn and a crochet hook. Ive shred a few crochet tutorials but today I’m going back to basics with a simple Granny Square. This is the building block of throws and blankets, and when you can master one square , you can make more and more in any colour!

List of Supplies:
Yarn
Crochet hook – 3.5mm
A pair of scissors
Needle

Stitches (crochet abbreviations) used for this project
Magic ring/ loop – MR
Chain stitch – CH
Double Crochet – DC
Treble Crochet – TC
Slip Knot – Sl St
Stitch – St

How to crochet a Flower Granny Square:

Select a yarn for the center of the flower. Make a magic ring and chain 2.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Work a double crochet into the magic ring.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Repeat double crochet 14 times into the MR. There should be a total of 15 DC in the magic ring.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Insert the hook into the very first DC, then work a slip-stitch

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Work 2 chains on the hook.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Now yarn over, and insert the hook into the same stitch. Pull the yarn through the same stitch without working any stitches.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Repeat it 2 times and you should have 7 loops on your hook.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Now grab the yarn and pull it through all the loops. This stitch is called a bubble.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Repeat this 3 times and you should have 5 loops on the hook.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Now grab the yarn and pull it through all the 5 loops.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Work 2 chains on the hook.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Repeat the previous stitch pattern 15 times for this row. You should have 16 bubble stitches at the end of this round.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Insert the hook between the first 2 bubble stitch and work a slip stitch.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Add new yarn through a gap between any 2 bubble stitches of the last round.

Chain 4.

Flower Granny Square tutorial

Granny Square tutorial

Again work 3 DC crochet into the next 2 stitches.

Granny Square tutorial

Repeat the corner stitch pattern into the next stitch (the 5th).

Granny Square tutorial

Repeat the 3 DC into the next 3 stitches and corner stitch pattern in the 4th until the 4 sides of the granny square are covered.

Granny Square tutorial

Insert the hook between the first chain 4 and the first treble stitch and make a slip-stitch. Cut off extra yarn and tuck the remaining yarn on the backside of the crochet pattern to secure the ending.
