Summer Bee embroidery hoop

Niamh Wimperis’ bee embroidery gift

Regular readers will know that every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new.

Mollie Makes took a break over the worst of the lockdown period. I really missed my monthly treat but was kept busy with my Sew A Little Happiness Everyday sampler. I was so happy to see a copy land on my doormat after so long. Issue 119 came with Niamh Wimperis’ bee embroidery gift. I love a little stitchy project and couldn’t wait to get started.

I love a simple embroidery and whipped this up in a few hours. First I stitched the bee in black, white and gold thread. Then I added the leaves and flower detail.

Even though it’s the Summer holidays I still seem to be spending my days sitting at the dining room table with the children. They are working their way through Rob Biddulph’s art tutorials so I get plenty of time to stitch. The finished hoop is so pretty. I haven’t trimmed the fabric in case I want to use the embroidery in some way.

I wish I had ironed it a bit better but it’s still a really pretty craft project for a Summer day.

This is SUCH a lovely challenge to set yourself – especially as it’s bumble bee related this month!
