Mollie Makes Embroidered Necklace Kit

Regular readers will know that every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and ~~have~~ had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new.

Issue 95 of Mollie Makes came with a free Embroidered Necklace Kit. Designed by Helen Dickson of Bustle and Sew it contained a variety of embroidery threads, a printed cotton panel, white felt, a needle and silver chain with lobster clasp.

It was the perfect size for some weekend sewing so I packed it in my bag for our little weekend away. I forgot to take a photo of all the parts and had nearly finished it before I remembered! It was so simple to stitch that I didn’t even need the instructions – luckily for me as I had brought the kit but not the magazine!

I used simple stitches and the only thing I needed to look up was the woven wheel stitch. It’s such a great stitch and I’m really glad I had the chance to try it out.

I made the stitched panel into a cute necklace by cutting the felt and using a blanket stitch to finish it off. It looks really pretty – I just hope I can find a suitable outfit to wear it with!
