We love baking gingerbread and half term has given the opportunity to slow down a little and do some of the things we enjoy. Such as baking. Gingerbread is the perfect autumnal treat and never fails to fill the house with its delicious, warming smells. A few weeks ago the shops were full of Halloween treats and I picked up a few to make with the kids. We made Ghoulish Gingerbread Skeletons from M&S but had another kit to make. These kits make baking with the kids super simple. Spooky Halloween gingerbread treats I think this Gingerbread Skeleton Biscuit Kit…

We love using our National Trust membership to visit a new place and as we’ve been enjoying exploring Wales we decided to spend some time at Newton House at Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire. Newton House is a lovely country house surrounded by a National Nature Reserve and 18th century landscape Deer Park. Exploring Newton House at Dinefwr with kids We arrived at Newton House and approached it from the car park. We were rewarded with an amazing view of the house which dates from the Jacobean times but was given a facelift in the Venetian Gothic style by its Victorian owners. Surprisingly…

Did you know that the BBC is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2022? The BBC started its first daily radio service in London in 1922, it only broadcast for a few hours, mainly news and ‘talks’. The BBC is a national institution here in the UK, but what exactly is it? It’s both impartial and independent, and every day creates distinctive, world-class programmes and content which inform, educate and entertain millions of people in the UK and around the world. Growing up with only 4 tv stations I’ve always enjoyed BBC programmes on the radio and television. There’s so much…

Starting the week by writing the Monday Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I always love to sit down and write. I’m mixing things up a little by posting this weekly post on Sunday instead of Monday! Sunday Happy Things {Week 419} We love Halloween and spent last week doing some lovely seasonal things. My daughter carved her pumpkin at Scouts and I made…

With a child in Secondary school we are discovering new learning opportunities all the time! A few months ago my son started studying Shakespeare, which inspired a trip to visit some of the houses connected with William Shakespeare. We had already been to The Globe to watch a retelling of Twelfth Night at The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in London which was an amazing experience. I pre-booked our tickets online, buying a Shakespeare’s Story family ticket enabling us to visit three houses associated with William Shakespeare – Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Shakespeare’s New Place and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. All three properties were around…

I love to share books with my children, my daughter loves a picture book, especially non-fiction ones. We were recently gifted a copy of An Atlas of Lost Kingdoms by Emily Hawkins and Lauren Baldo, which is perfect for children aged 7-9 years. In this copper-foiled, richly illustrated atlas of forgotten places, discover lost kingdoms, phantom islands and legendary continents that were once sought by explorers, and now…

This morning we were uniform shopping in Watford and walked past Glow In One. We treated ourselves to a round of golf in the underground glow in the dark mini golf course. We love to try different activities and this was our first trip to Glow In One. Glow in One Watford When we arrived at Glow in One we booked a family ticket for 14 rounds of mini golf. Our first surprise was that the illuminated gold course was underground! We took our golf clubs, glow in the dark golf balls and score card and went down stairs to…
