    My last pregnancy?

I’m not ashamed to admit I don’t like being pregnant. Although it’s completely natural it makes me feel out of balance, I dislike my body shape and spend 9 months on edge – either counting the kicks or wishing the baby would stop turning cartwheels. Being pregnant makes me feel horribly human and responsible and I find it strange knowing I have no control over it. Looking back, I ignored a few of the early pregnancy symptons. I found it easy to get pregnant but it took me a couple of weeks to mentally come to terms with it. It…

    Bumpwatch – 37 weeks

37 weeks, third trimester = almost over. I’ve come to realise that although my body is designed for pregnancy my mental state is not. As my husband frequently lets me know, I’ve been grumpy for the whole 9 months! I found the first trimester hard due to nausea and tiredness. My second trimester passed in an equally tired blur as the bloom I expected never happened. My third trimester seems to have been spent with my feet up watching Edward play. We have been getting out every day but it’s been hard work in this colder weather – if I…

    His time vs my time

Edward has now had five sessions at nursery. The first two were reduced hours to help him settle in but he’s now completed three full sessions. Our main goal was to help him socialise with other children. I didn’t realise how hard this would be and despite lots of activities he seemed to pick up bad habits rather than good from other children. Without making it sound like I wanted to let someone else take responsibility for his behaviour we decided it would be of major benefit if he had regular time with other children in a secure environment. I’m…

Half-term fun at the Tower of London

I never thought that we’d be affected by half-term with a pre-schooler but all our normal activities stop! This time we tried to be a bit more ingenious and made the most of activities at our local library, autumnal walks in the park as well as a trip to the Tower of London. Half-term fun at the Tower of London We’ve been meaning to go to the Tower of London for ages. It’s one of those iconic places which would be in my fantasy London Guide which represent London, along with Big Ben, black cabs and red telephone boxes. Despite…

    What do I need for a c-section?

Last night I packed my hospital bag. I’ve been getting really strange tummy pains and just want to be ready in case anything happens. I know I’ll be having a c-section but what do I need to take into hospital? a new nightdress and dressing gown clothes to go home in maternity towels and pants toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant camera and charged battery phone and charger maternity notes notebook and pen so I can write down everything that happened (I did this last time and it was great to look back on after my morphine haze ended) towel antibacterial wipes plastic…

    Gingerbread house finds

Edward and I went for our usual shopping trip last week, visiting the charity shops of Crouch End. It was a strange trip as I got accosted by two Eastern European women in one shop who pointed at my expanding belly and told me I was having a boy. We decided not to find out the sex of our Second Baby but I seem to be attracting lots of unwanted attention on the pregnancy front. I can’t hide my bump but I just seem to attract people who want to talk to me about it. I’m so fed up of…

What to pack in a maternity hospital bag?

I can tell this pregnancy is going well because I just don’t have time to worry about it. I can’t even remember how many weeks pregnant I am which is worrying. Thank goodness I signed up to lots of marketing email so I get weekly reminders! When I bump into mum friends at our weekly events I either get “I didn’t realise you were pregnant” or “You look ready to pop” – not so great when I have a good couple of weeks to go! I actually have my second midwife appointment this week – yes, my second midwife appointment…

Are maternity pillows a passion killer?

I’ve got to that stage of my second pregnancy where I need a helping hand in the bedroom. I’ve been using the duvet to make a pillow under my bump but my husband is starting to complain about the lack of duvet (because I’ve obviously been using his quota of duvet!). However I can’t quite bring myself to resurrect my maternity pillow from its place in the loft. Not that it wasn’t useful, it’s just really un-sexy. Do you agree? I’m not at the stage where I want to cover my pregnant tummy in an old ladies-style nightie but there…
