Over the weekend we went into London to visit Liberty London flagship store on Great Marlborough Street. This is one of my favourite department stores, and my favourite fabrics to work with, and well worth a visit any time of the year. This year sees them celebrate their 150th anniversary with a programme of curated exhibitions, immersive installations, special collections and so much more. We visited to see the free exhibition called I Am. We Are. Liberty. as well as the installation of the Liberty Patchwork House.

I Am. We Are. Liberty.

Our first stop was the I Am. We Are. Liberty. exhibition on the 4th floor featuring a variety of designs from the Liberty archive over the past 150 years.

We loved the way the fabric panels were displayed along a beautiful corridor with lovely little window alcoves. Some of the prints were reproduced on boards, some were hung.

Some designs I had seen before, but many were new to me. As well as fabrics there were tiles, drawings, original designs and fabric samples. It was a lovely way to explore the history of Liberty London.

The exhibition is open until the 25th July and well worth a visit.

Liberty Patchwork House

The Liberty Patchwork House is made up of over 1000 patchwork squares. Each square has been made by the creative community who love Liberty fabrics following a call for contributions earlier this year. The structure is huge and such a fun idea to celebrate Liberty’s heritage.

The Liberty Patchwork House can be found in Liberty’s Tudor Halls and admired from ground floor and some of the upper floors. You can also look through the books of squares which didn’t make it into the Liberty Patchwork House. These were about 5 of these books which shows how many people wanted to contribute to the project. The Liberty Patchwork House is also open until the end of July 2025.
