I love a trip to the theatre. I try to go when I can justify the ridiculous London ticket prices, and I love to take the teens too. We’ve always enjoyed escaping to the cinema to watch the latest films, and we introduced them to the theatre at an early age because, for me, it offers every bit as much entertainment as the cinema.

Now You See Me Live – London

I love musical theatre but can be persuaded to watch other types of shows. I never thought of myself as a fan of magic, until I found myself booking tickets for Now You See Me Live at the London Coliseum. Perhaps I had been influenced by the magicians trying out for a spot on Britain’s Got Magic earlier this year. Or it may have been watching the latest film in the franchise, Now you See Me: Now You Don’t, which came out last year. It encouraged us to re-watch the earlier films along with the teens, all very clever and entertaining and we’re looking forward to the next instalment.

A theatre tip sounded like a great summer holiday day out and last week we headed into London for dinner and the theatre. The London Coliseum is a venue we’re all familiar with, having seen the ENO’s version of Iolanthe a few years ago.

There was a fun atmosphere around the theatre when we arrived, and we were excited to be invited to take four playing cards on our way in. The warning for strobe lighting, loud bangs and a live scorpion didn’t phase us, and we took our seats for the performance.

James More, Andrew Basso, Gabriella Lester and Matthew Pomeroy are The Horsemen, with special guests Eden Choi, Fraser Penman and Rafferty Coope appearing in the London show.

This is a live stage show featuring illusions, and stunts. The show is clever, allowing each magician show their unique talents on their own, as well as all coming together for parts of the show. There was lots of audience participation which really kept the show flowing and the audience engaged. The show lasted just over 2 hours with an interval.

The teens said their heads hurt trying to figure out some of the stunts so we knew they had enjoyed the show. We all loved the opportunity to use the cards we had picked at the beginning of the show to perform our own little bit of magic. We had a fun evening and would recommend this show for all ages.

The show must end on the 6th September as it’s heading for a residency in Las Vegas.
