Cotton Clara X Maptote embroidery hoop

July crafting

Posted on August 11, 2023August 21, 2023 by jenny

July was a busy month so it’s probably no surprise that I forgot to post an update of my crafts. The kids had loads of activities and finished their school year, and promptly went off to summer camp with Scouts. There was also plenty of time for crafting and we fitted in a few exhibitions in London and lots of makes.

At the beginning of the month we went shopping for new clothes for her end of Year 6 disco. I looked for an online fabric store and found some great materials but she found some clothes she wanted so I didn’t get round to making anything for her. She got an old shirt signed by all her classmates on the last day of term which she really enjoyed. I’m not sure how I’m going to keep this so I made sure to take a photograph of the front and back in case the ink fades.

We took part in a few workshops in London in July. These ranged from a Japanese pastel art workshop at Ruislip Farmers Market to a workshop at the Guildhall Art Gallery. These were both fun and resulted in some lovely pieces.

Travelling further afield took us to the Royal Connections: Crowns and Coronets exhibition at Blenheim Palace which featured some of the lavish collections of Blenheim Palace, along with costumes from The Crown and Bridgerton (which were both filmed at Blenheim Palace).

I finally managed to update my little Etsy store and have started filling it with some vintage game pieces and vintage finds. I have loads of beautiful vintage embroidered fabrics to add, so I will be photographing them and adding them to my store in the next few weeks.

Two hoops were finished – a sweet little Making Joy hoop as well as the Cotton Clara X Maptote embroidery hoop, both from Cotton Clara. I also started the English Paper Piecing Ladybird kit I bought from MakeBox & Co. I always enjoy English Paper Piecing and thought the ladybird was a pretty unusual make. There are a few different suggestions on what to do with the finished ladybird so I’m excited to see how this turns out.

Phew, it was a busy month and I’m glad there was lots of craft and creativity to keep our hands busy.

The London hoop is so pretty even though you found it tough to finish.
