Crafts for adults

August crafting

quilt at Thomas Hardy's Birthplace

August went past in a bit if a flash thanks to the school summer holidays, but I’m delighted to be sitting down and looking over the past month of creativity. The lovely long summer evenings are perfect for crafting and my daughter and I were very busy with our embroidery hoops.

August crafting

I’ve been subscribing to the Craftpod subscription box for a few years now and really loved the contents of the Summer craftpod subscription box. I stitched the Sunflower cross stitch straight away as I love sunflowers (although am never successful at growing them!). Last week I finished the embroidered butterfly brooch which I’ve added to my denim jacket.

My daughter completed her dogs dogs dogs embroidery hoop by Oh Sew Bootiful. This was a birthday present and took her a while, but was a great little project.

I treated myself to a copy of Stitch by Jen Rich whilst we were away on holiday and I’ve really enjoyed reading it, and bookmarked a few projects too. I’ve also been reading 365 Days of Stitches by Steph Arnold and Macrame Christmas by Isabella Strambio – it’s never too early to start thinking about handmade gifts!

Because I finished a project I was able to start the ladybird EPP subscription box from MakeBox & Co. I really enjoy EPP and have my Liberty tumbling blocks ready to pick up when I’ve watching something on Netflix too. I can’t wait to show you progress with the ladybird next month!

I bought myself two kits in the Cosy Craft Box sale: a candle painting kit from Fay & Mamie, and the botanical casting kit from Kate Aldred. I’m thinking I may make some of my Christmas gifts this year and it’s definitely time to start thinking about those.

Whilst we were away in Dorset this month we paid a visit to Thomas Hardy’s Birthplace where I had to admire the beautiful quilts on the beds. There were two of different designs and they made me long for a handmade quilt on my bed at home.

Congratulations to your daughter for finishing her stitching project – it is adorable. I remember doing crafts with my mother so many years ago – and it is a memory to be treasured.
