Family fun with Ticket to Ride London

Family fun with Ticket to Ride London {review}

Posted on November 29, 2019May 15, 2020 by jenny

We love nothing more than getting home from school and playing a board game during the winter months. It is so dark during November and December that it’s quite nice to close up the shutters and gather round the table to play a board game together.   We love being part of Asmodee’s Blogger Board Game club and were delighted to receive Ticket to Ride London from Days of Wonder to play at home.

We all really enjoy the Ticket to Ride series of board games. We already have the original Ticket to Ride and Ticket to Ride Europe. There’s also an app and we’ve even played it on the PS4! Yep, it’s a game we all enjoy to play so we couldn’t wait to try Ticket to Ride London.

Ticket to Ride London review

Welcome to ’70s London, world capital of fashion and music. Jump aboard a famous double-decker bus to rumble through London’s historic streets, breeze past Buckingham Palace, pop into the British Museum or listen to Big Ben’s chime echo across the Thames …

Family fun with Ticket to Ride London

In this fast-paced Ticket to Ride game, players race one another to claim the most important bus lines and complete their Destination Tickets, connecting Districts in the capital of the United Kingdom.

The first thing we noticed was the size of the box, it’s much smaller than the other versions we have. It also feels a little simpler to grasp the rules. Like other versions you choose routes to claim on the game board. Instead of trains you use bus tokens, and the ticket cards feature iconic 70s vehicles from black cabs, a red London bus, a Lotus, Ferrari, a milk float and a yellow submarine.

The elegantly simple gameplay of this stand-alone version of Ticket To Ride is ideal for both beginners and seasoned players. The aim of the game us to get the most points. We really enjoy playing it, especially recognising favourite London landmarks. Learn the game in 3 minutes, play it for hours!

Essential information:

What’s inside the box: 44 transportation cards, 20 destination ticket cards, 4 scoring markers, 1 rule leaflet, 1 board game map of London, 68 plastic buses (17 in each colour)

Ticket to Ride London is priced £30.00 (Amazon affiliate link)

Perfect for ages 8 and over

Can be played by 2-4 players

A game takes around 10-15 minutes

    Oooo I love the retro vibe of the game.
    I don’t know London very well but this game looks super fun.

    My husband, a long time dual London addict and transport aficionado may just be getting this for Christmas now – thank you for the inspiration!
