Last week we ventured into London for the day. We had been invited to a drawing masterclass with Horrible Histories’ Martin Brown. It had been a while since we last had time to explore and we couldn’t wait to walk around Granary Square at Kings Cross before the event. The area has been totally transformed and there is always something new to see and do, especially for kids. Drawing masterclass with Horrible Histories’ Martin Brown If you’re a parent you’ve probably heard of Horrible Histories. My son just loves the books, written by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown.…

I first came across the concept of mudlarking when I worked at the Museum of London years ago. I was briefly responsible for meeting the mudlarkers and documenting their finds which would then be photographed and discussed at monthly meetings, to see if the museum wanted to acquire them. It was fascinating meeting the mudlarkers and seeing what they had discovered along the banks of the Thames. I’ve always been fascinated by the history of London so was delighted to receive a copy of Mudlarking: Lost and Found on the River Thames by Lara Maiklem to review via Netgalley. Mudlarking:…

The kids have always been huge fans of Playmobil. Thanks to Playmobil we’ve reviewed some wonderful toys as Playmobil Playologists and had some fun experiences too, like helping Playmobil celebrate their 40th birthday at The Waldorf Hotel, London or helping Playmobil celebrate their partnership with London Fire Brigade at the Playmobil VIP launch party. So we were absolutely delighted to be invited to the premiere of the brand new Playmobil film – Playmobil: The Movie in London today. If you are looking for something to do with the kids this summer in London then look no further than the Science Museum. It’s a firm favourite with our family for lots of reasons, mainly because it’s free and is a great place to learn about science! We’ve already shared our experience at Wonderlab and today went back to see their latest exhibition – Top Secret: From Ciphers to Cyber Security. Last month we visited Bletchley Park. We had such a lovely day out exploring it. During the Second World War it was the home of the British Government Code…

A few weekends ago we visited the Chiltern Open Air Museum. Can you believe it has been on our list since we moved to Hillingdon 6 years ago? Yet it took us 6 years to find a free weekend! Anyway, we had a fantastic day at the Chiltern Open Air Museum with our tweens so now I want to tell you why you should visit too. Chiltern Open Air Museum with tweens Chiltern Open Air Museum is an outdoor museum in Buckinghamshire. You can explore over 30 rescued and reconstructed historic buildings from the Chilterns in a beautiful countryside setting.…

I still can’t write about our trip to Centre Parc Woburn just yet (there was just far too much sick and blood!). However on the way home we decided to stop off at Bletchley Park. We hadn’t visited in over 10 years and definitely not with tweens, so were long overdue a visit. A visit to Bletchley Park with tweens Bletchley Park near Milton Keynes is a lovely Victorian country house built in the Victorian Gothic, Tudor, and Dutch Baroque styles. During the Second World War it was the home of the British Government Code and Cypher School (GC&CS) and home…

A few weeks ago we finally got to visit the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, aka the Harry Potter Studio Tour. I can’t tell you how long I’ve wanted to visit and I didn’t realise you had to book so far in advance. I’ve read all the books, watched the films, and tried to introduce my children to the magical world of Harry Potter too. They’ve watched most of the films so we thought we would book a family ticket and visit the studio tour together. Warner Bros. Studio Tour London We only live 20 minutes away from the Studio…

A few weeks ago we were invited to visit Tower Bridge and The Monument, two iconic landmarks in London. It had been a while since our last visit to Tower Bridge, and we’d never taken the kids to The Monument, so we were looking forward to a great day out. The weather was perfect, so we jumped on the tube and emerged at Tower Hill a little later. Exploring Tower Bridge with kids Tower Bridge stands close to the Tower of London and connects Tower Hamlets with Southwark. It’s a combined bascule and suspension bridge, built between 1886 and 1894. It’s actually free…
