Stormtroopers at Star Wars Identities

Star Wars Identities at the O2 London

Posted on April 8, 2017April 9, 2023 by jenny

My son received tickets to go and see Star Wars Identities at the O2 London. He’s a huge Star Wars fan, we all are, so thought it would make a great trip during the Easter holidays. We planned a day out, travelling by tube, seeing the exhibition and coming part of the way back by river boat. Yesterday we had our big day out and had a brilliant time.

When we entered the exhibition we were given a wristband and audio guide. Throughout the exhibition there were 10 points where you could touch in with your wristband and choose a Star Wars identity.

Star Wars Identities

Identities explores the theme of identity using ten components that help make us who we are: species, genes, parents, culture, mentors, friends, events, occupation, personality, and values.

These ten components are grouped into the exhibition’s three main sections, which follow the progression of identity from childhood to adulthood: first Origins, then Influences, and finally Choices. This thematic backbone gives structure not only to the educational content of the exhibition but to the Star Wars collection as well.

Star Wars Identities

Featuring 200 original costumes, props, models, and pieces of artwork from the Lucasfilm Archives, there is plenty to see and do. It was really well laid out with plenty of space. There were specific spaces to listen to your audio guide but I liked the fact you could choose to stay and listen or move on. My children weren’t too fussed about the audio guide but I would have loved the opportunity to stay a bit longer and listen.

Star Wars Identities

My children really enjoyed choosing their own Star Wars character. My daughter needed help reading the text but my 7 year old was able to read everything himself. The idea was ‘who would you be if you were a character from Star Wars’? We all chose something completely different. My son chose a Wookiee Jedi Knight whilst my daughter chose an Ewok. At the end of the exhibition your character is brought to life and you can email it to yourself.

Star Wars Identities

It’s safe to say we loved the exhibition. The layout was really well planned so you couldn’t see the next part of the exhibition. This meant that each display really took your breath away thanks to the lighting and content. It was amazing to see so many original props, from Han Solo in carbonite, to the awful costume Princess Leia had to wear in captivity, to the machine Obi Wan used to check Anakin’s blood and the eyes of the original of Jabba the Hutt.

Star Wars Identities

I would totally recommend Star Wars Identities if you love Star Wars. The exhibition covers all six Star Wars films as well as the ongoing television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The audio guide was really interesting and we all enjoyed creating our very own Star Wars hero. Here we all are as our Star Wars alter egos.

Star Wars Identities is at the O2 London until September 3rd.

I went to this too and loved the concept of creating your own character whilst seeing your favourite ones too! Glad you enjoyed it. Live that you came back part of the way on river boat too!

    Thanks for sharing!

This does sound like so much more than just Star Wars. I love the idea of the themes, and the fact that the exhibits just appear, without you being able to see them coming up in the distance. It’s just down the road from us, so I must go before it closes….thanks for linking up with #CulturedKids!
