We’re surrounded by sporting events at the moment which has had a great influence on our crafting. So far this year we’ve had Euro 2016, Wimbledon and the Tour de France 2016 and we’ve still got many more to come.
Did you know that athletes in ancient games didn’t receive medals like they do today? Instead they received a wreath crown made of olive tree leaves, or later from the leaves of a bay laurel. I thought we should try and make our own paper version so today we’re sharing our paper plate laurel wreath craft for kids.
Paper plate laurel wreath craft supplies:
green paper
scissors
paper plate
Bostik Fine and Wide Glu Pen
How to make a paper plate laurel wreath craft for kids:
First we cut lots of leaves from our green paper. We used scrap paper and a variety of prints and patterns but you could use plain paper for a more authentic look. Next we cut our shapes. You could do this freehand but I used my Sizzix Big Shot Plus and a die to make this nice and quick.
I cut the centre of the paper plate out and also snipped through one side, just to make it fit slightly better when worn.
Then came the fun crafty part. My 4 and 6 year olds used the Bostik Fine and Wide Glu Pen to stick the leaves to our paper plate wreath.
The Bostik Fine and Wide Glu Pen is really handy. My children use the wide end but the thin end is useful for my crafts too! They overlapped the leaves until they had covered the wreath.
We weren’t quite sure which way to wear it so we’ve tried both. Yep, it can be worn with the leaves facing up or down! Now we’re all ready for Sports Day tomorrow.
Disclosure – some of these craft supplies were provided by Bostik for the purpose of this post.
