Recently I’ve felt like I’ve lost my crafting mojo. The Easter holidays were busy and we had some lovely days out but the kids stayed up late which left no time for crafting. I have a few projects on the go but none were really grabbing my attention. So I was happy when the May issue of Love Embroidery magazine arrived because it included a lovely free embroidery project.

I embroider a lot of hoops so I liked the thought of stitching something a little different. The stitch kit was designed by Jessie Doe and  featured a fun floral design around the words ‘love grows here’. The fabric was cut into a pennant shape with the design printed on one of the pieces. The kit contained four strands of different coloured embroidery threads and a short piece of dowel.

I found the smallest embroidery hoop I had to embroider the fabric. I started with the floral design with stem stitch for the leaves and satin stitch for the flowers.

Then there were plenty of French knots. I used the technique I learned at the Hobbycraft workshop I recently attended. But they started to go wrong, all loopy and loose. So I reverted back to my old way of doing them, slightly slower but neater.

I finished off with the embroidered words. The pennant was simple to finish off and I used my sewing machine to stitch the two sides of the fabric together, folding it over the dowel and hand stitching it in place.
