{Summertime stitching} felt waterlily pincushion

felt waterlily pincushion

Last week we were away in the Netherlands which must be one of the child-friendly countries we’ve ever visited. In fact, we love the Netherlands so much it was our third visit with kids! I made sure to pack a few small sewing projects in case there was any free time – there wasn’t very much!

Before we left I finished the felt waterlily pincushion from the Summer Craftpod box. This is one of my favourite subscription boxes, it’s sent every season and is always great fun to stitch. Each box contains two craft projects and this one contained a felt waterlily pincushion and an iridescent dragonfly hoop.

The first project I wanted to make was the pincushion. I can’t resist a little pincushion. They are small and practical and you can never have too many. We’ve seen quite a few waterlilies this year and I thought this was a fun shape for a pincushion. First I cut out the felt pieces, then I started to stitch.

I stitched the felt water lily first, then made the felt lily pad. I didn’t take any photos as it was so small and fiddly to hold and stitch! It only took a couple of hours which whizzed by as we watched Only Murders in the Building. Have you watched it yet? It’s brilliant, based around three residents of an apartment building who get caught up in a murder in their building. It’s funny with lots of cameos from people like Sting, Cara Delevigne and Shirley MacLaine.

Anyway, I finished the little felt pin cushion and it’s a sweet addition to my collection. I haven’t started the iridescent dragonfly hoop yet. I usually love a hoop project but I really hate transferring designs onto fabric so have put this to one side for now.

I love the colours – some of my favourite shades of green. I’d love to have this in my sewing box.
