Regular readers will know that every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new. Issue 105 came with a kit to make a cute pom pom watermelon which only took a few minutes, I have been looking forward to the next gift for ages!
Botanical succulents hoop art
The Botanical hoop art kit came with issue 106 of Mollie Makes magazine. Designed by Jenny Blair it included printed fabric, hoop, threads, needle and felt. It was a cute kit to embroider and applique.
I have to admit that I swapped the felt for felt from my own stash. I thought the felt supplied was thin and quite poor quality, plus I wanted to choose my own colours to match the embroidery hoop!
The printed panel had three plant pots, each containing a monstera, a pilea plant and a string-of-pearls. I love some succulent art and knew this would be a fun project to stitch.
The instructions were super simple to follow – cut felt for the plant pots and monstera, use the thread provided to stitch the plants and shelves. It came together really quickly. When I had finished the front I trimmed the fabric panel and used a simple running stitch to pull the excess fabric tight behind the hoop. Such a cute little make!
