What I made in April 2024

Posted on April 27, 2024April 28, 2024 by jenny

April passed me by so quickly, probably due to the kids being off of school for 2 weeks. They really enjoyed the break, and I managed to take a few days off too to spend with them. A lot of my sewing was related to them, but I also made plenty of things for me too.

What I made in April 2024

The children have both shot up in the last few months. My daughter needed a new Scout shirt for our local St George’s Day parade so I had a deadline to move all her badges from her old to her new Scout shirt.  My husband kept telling me to buy some fabric glue but this is a job I actually love to do. She looks so smart in her uniform and I love how proud she is every time she receives a new badge. She also gave me her old Cub blanket to stitch a new fabric badge on to.

My son is growing too and needed new school trousers. I bought him proper trousers rather than school uniform one, so needed to remove the back pockets which was a quick job.

A goldwork heart badge was the latest Hoop Club by Cotton Clara project. I’ve wanted to try goldwork for a while and it was interesting trying new types of metal thread. I’m not a big fan of my finished badge but I’m pleased that I started and finished it. Please remind me not to try goldwork again!

My husband gave me a cute Liberty star kit from Alice Caroline a while ago, but I’ve never made it. Last week I got it all out, cut the fabric and started stitching the blocks together. Unfortunately my sewing machine started playing up so I had to unpick my delicate Liberty Tana Lawn a few times and gave up. This is definitely a project I will pick up and finish in May.

I’ve subscribed to Love Embroidery magazine for a few years now but never finished any of the free gifts which come with the magazine. I needed to get out of a sewing slump so decided to make the dandelion kit which came with a recent issue. It was a really simple make but I enjoyed sewing whilst watching 3 Body Problem on Netflix. It made me want to finish more of the sewing projects which came with Love Embroidery magazine. If anyone can help me get those creases out, please let me know!

SearchPress sent me a copy of All-New 20 Felt Flowers to make and on Monday I will be taking part in a little book tour to help promote it. I decided to make the felt succulents project from it. I used a glue gun, rather than a needle and thread, and it was a fun project to try. I always love working with felt and this looks great on my desk.

It sounds like you had a busy month, especially with the kids off school for a break. Sewing Scout badges and making new school trousers for your growing son must have kept you on your toes. I love how you described the pride your daughter feels in her Scout uniform – it’s those little moments that make all the sewing worth it, isn’t it?

Your felt flowers are awesome. Thanks for the inspo, I might try something like this.
