baking homestyle subscription box

Baking Lavender shortbread {Spring Craftpod sub box}

Baking Lavender shortbread

Sometimes I really can’t remember where I found things. I guess that’s the good thing about the internet. You see a pretty picture on Instagram or read something on a blog and before you know it, you’ve found another subscription box to try out.

That’s pretty much how I came across Craftpod. It’s a quarterly, creative subscription box, delivered to you at the start of each season containing sewing, baking and other surprises inspired by nature and the seasons. I loved the sound of the subscription so signed up and eagerly awaited a delivery.

As this is a quarterly box the one I ordered was Spring. A few weeks later a slim little box landed on my doormat and I was excited to open it up.

Inside were three craft activities and a lovely greetings card. I think I paid £18.00 + pp, which seems to be standard for crafty subscription boxes such as this one.

Lavender shortbread recipe

My favourite activity was the recipe card for Blossom and Herb Shortbread. I’ve been dreaming about this recipe for a few weeks and finally managed to make some shortbread over the weekend.

I don’t remember making shortbread before but it’s a simple recipe using butter, caster sugar, plain flour and vanilla extract. I opted for Lavender Shortbread and added 1 tablespoon of finely ground dried lavender which smelled amazing. Then used some of our own cutters to make flowers, stars and some bird shapes, leaving the finished shortbread unglazed.

I never think of incorporating the season into my baking so this was quite fun. I packed the shortbread in our picnic and it went down really well.

As well as this recipe there were two other activity cards. One for stitching a Blossom Embroidery and one for making a mono print.

The activities are really fun and the instructions are detailed enough that I’m going to have a go at both this weekend.

I love celebrating the seasons so this box is perfect for me. I can’t wait to see what’s inside the next one!
