I hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas. Not that our winter holiday is over but I have let out a small sigh of relief that presents have been opened and enjoyed and several big meals have been cooked and eaten. My two little people have not let Christmas get in their way and have been wanting to be crafty regardless of their piles of presents. We’ve had playdough, practising our writing, colouring and stamping as well as outdoor family activities including a couple of walks, a trip to the park with their scooters and taking my son’s model boat out too.
Despite the cold weather my children love being outdoors, in fact we all do. As well as the activities mentioned above we also spent time doing a fun craft activity yesterday. Yep, we put on our hats and coats, and headed out into our poor neglected garden to make flower pot snowmen. It was a craft I had seen on Pinterest (where else?) and was easy and fun.
How to make flower pot snowmen:
A few days ago we popped by Hobbycraft to pick up some supplies. We already had some spare flowerpots but needed some white paint, coloured card and eye stickers. I love shopping in Hobbycraft and enjoyed looking at all their colourful displays, there was definitely plenty of choice 🙂
One evening we all had a go painting the flower pots with the white paint. The pots got two coats to make sure they were evenly covered.
After they had been left to dry we added eyes, an orange nose from the card, and a wobbly mouth from some black ric rac we found at home. Then we took our flower pot people outside to finish them off.
First we gathered all the hats and scarves we could find, then let the children dress them up. There was a little arguing over whose looked best and they kept swapping the hats over until they were happy.
We’ve left the flowerpot snowmen guarding our patio doors, although I have a feeling they might be moved to the front door to welcome guests soon! This was a great outdoor activity for my little people and they enjoyed being outside so much they stayed out and played with their water table, crazy peeps. I wonder what else we can make to brighten up our garden at this time of year?
I love those little snowmen pots…Now I want to make some! Such a great idea 🙂

What a great idea! My kids keep wanted to build a snowman – undeterred by the lack of snow!!
We tried making fake snow, I really wouldn’t recommend it as it involved slightly wet paper towels and my food mixer!
