    Visiting the Battle of Britain Bunker with kids

    A few weeks ago we finally organised a visit to the Battle of Britain Bunker with our kids. It was a place we had wanted to visit since it opened. You must pre-book a tour of the bunker online, but it was free with our Hillingdon First card. We drove to the Bunker which is one of the few remaining buildings from RAF Uxbridge which closed in 2010. Visiting the Battle of Britain Bunker with kids The Battle of Britain Bunker is an underground operations room at RAF Uxbridge, formerly used by No. 11 Group Fighter Command during the Second…

    A trip to RHS Wisley with kids

    Last month we finally got round to visiting RHS Wisley in Surrey. RHS Wisley is the historic home of the RHS and houses one of the largest plant collections in the world.I love being outdoors at the weekend and this was a place on my bucket list. Tickets are pre-book so we booked a day, packed the puppy off to puppy day care (sadly no dogs are allowed at RHS Wisley except on special occasions) and set off for a short drive. A trip to RHS Wisley with kids I’m not much of a gardener but it doesn’t mean that…

    A trip to The Pop Up Farms’ Pumpkin Patch

    Last weekend we took a trip to The Pop Up Farms’ Pumpkin Patch. I had been looking forward to visiting this pumpkin patch just outside London for weeks. Unfortunately our original trip was cancelled due to bad weather but we managed to re-book for the following weekend. We visited The Pop Up Farm last year and were really excited to visit again. I wanted to pick a selection of pumpkins and take some lovely photos of my children. A trip to The Pop Up Farms’ Pumpkin Patch Due to current restrictions we had to pre-book our tickets and pay a…

    A trip to Iver Environment Centre

    Iver Environment Centre is located in the Colne Valley between Uxbridge and Slough. It is one of four environmental education centres across the UK which are owned by the National Grid. Set up in 1990 the 4.5 acre site includes a poly tunnel rainforest, an orchard, woodland area with a fire pit, two allotments, mud kitchen, ponds and more. They run a series of educational events, family activities and volunteering opportunities. A trip to Iver Environment Centre I’m not sure where I first heard about Iver Environment Centre but I wish we’d found out about it sooner! During the Summer…

    What to do during half term in Hillingdon

    Regular readers will know that I live in the London Borough of Hillingdon. This has to be one of the best London boroughs and is perfectly placed to enjoy all that London has to offer, as well as easy access to the countryside. We’ve lived in Hillingdon for 7 years and always find plenty to do. This school term is a strange one. My fingers are crossed that schools will remain open as home learning was really hard for all of us. I’m hoping that by planning a little now we will have some lovely events to look forward to…

    Exploring Woodhenge with kids

    We love exploring and on a recent road trip we stopped off at Woodhenge for a picnic and a little geocaching. We’ve been to Woodhenge before and it’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Exploring Woodhenge with kids I don’t think it will surprise you that Woodhenge is very close to its more famous neighbour, Stonehenge. Whereas Stonehenge is an amazing prehistoric stone monument, Woodhenge is slightly different. The scale is smaller and today concrete pillars mark where the wooden posts once were. Built at around the same time as Stonehenge, this was a timber monument with…

    Pumpkin patches near London {2020 update}

    For the past few years I have enjoyed putting together a post about the best pumpkin patches near London. Living on the edge of London we are able to travel into Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey and more to find the perfect pumpkin patch. There’s just something wonderful about a walk (and a photo or two) at a pumpkin patch. I’m sure I would never have said this a few years ago but it’s something the whole family enjoys, and the perfect Autumnal day out. Pumpkin patches near London {updated for 2020} As pumpkin patches are outdoors I’m hopeful that the…

    Exploring Lydford and Lydford Gorge with kids

    Last week we had a great week exploring Devon. We try to go a few times a year to visit family and there’s always somewhere new to explore. We took the opportunity to meet up with some friends and met half-way from where we were staying at Lydford Gorge. This is the deepest river gorge in the South West with a 30m high waterfall, owned by the National Trust. Exploring Lydford and Lydford Gorge with kids Due to the current pandemic restrictions you can only visit certain parts of Lydford Gorge such as the waterfall car park, the circular walk…

    Pick your own sunflowers at Darts Farm

    Each year, Darts Farm grow fields of beautiful sunflowers and ask for donations to raise money for Hospicecare. We have been eagerly looking for somewhere to pick our own sunflowers. Last year we visited the Pop Up Farm in Hertfordshire but they sadly announced that they wouldn’t be open for sunflowers this year. Happily for us we were near to Dart’s Farm at just the right time to go sunflower picking today. A morning at Darts Farm It’s been a few years since our last visit to Dart’s Farm which is just outside Exeter in south Devon. On our visit…
