    Burning Asteroid craft for kids

    My husband has been spending a lot of time watching the recent launch of Falcon 9 which transports satellites by SpaceX. We all love watching the rockets launch and that inspired our latest craft activity – a burning asteroid craft! Our latest box of Bostik craft supplies recently arrived and this months’ theme was Space. We haven’t done many space crafts but our craft box contained a selection of products including Bostik White Glu and a polystyrene ball. It was quite simple to turn it into a flaming asteroid burning through space. First we cut the polystyrene ball into two…

    Garden ABC letter hunt (A-Z Play at Home)

    The weather is warming up nicely which means we have been spending plenty of time in the garden. Every week we take part in the A-Z Play at Home series, this is all about simple play and learning ideas inspired by the every day items we have in our homes. The letter G inspired us to get outside and enjoy the garden with an impromptu ABC letter hunt. This was so simple to set up but kept my children occupied after school for ages. Garden ABC letter hunt We used our lovely garden and a set of alphabetical letter we’ve…

    Personalised Father’s Day frame

    You know how much we love making handmade gifts. We love to come up with our own ideas but sometimes it is nice to be inspired by someone else’s idea. Hobbycraft is our go-to show when we want to pick up some craft supplies but did you know they have some fantastic tutorials on their site too? We saw a fabulous instructions for making a Framed Family Tree and were delighted when then sent us the supplies to make our own version. I can’t believe Father’s Day is only a week away now. My children are so excited as they’ve been making cards at school as well as at Beavers and Rainbows. We’ve made a few cards at home too and they both have a pile of handmade cards and gifts to give their Dad next week. Aside from our handmade Father’s Day gifts we don’t do much on the day. This year we’ve booked to go to our favourite restaurant for dinner the night before. 11 handmade gifts for Father’s Day I thought it would be fun to post a round…

    Feather crown craft {A-Z Play at Home}

    The letter this week for the A-Z Play at Home series was F. I tried to think of an every day item around the house and came up with feathers! Father dusters are great but we also had a plentiful supply in our craft cupboard. We used them to make a fun feather crown, perfect for play at home. You will need only two basic things, cardboard and feathers, to make simple feather crowns. Roughly measure your child’s head and cut a thick band of cardboard accordingly. We placed our feathers at the front of the crown so used a scalpel…

    Fat Quarter: Home and Fat Quarter: Quick Makes! {review and giveaway}

    As a fabric addict I was pretty delighted when I heard about two new craft books from Juliet Bawden and Amanda Russell. Fat Quarter: Home and Fat Quarter: Quick Makes feature 25 projects to make from short lengths of fabrics. I can’t resist buying Fat Quarters when I see pretty fabrics, and my 7 year old seems to have caught my habit too. Yes, our fabric stash is bursting with FQs but I often can’t think of projects which would use them up. All that is about to change with the publication of these two titles. Fabric stashers need never feel guilty again…

    Superhero bookmark for Fathers Day

    Both the children were off school yesterday thanks to an Inset Day. We used our time to make a fun Father’s Day craft as my children love surprising their Dad with homemade gifts and cards. We used: Craft sticks Felt Cardboard Colouring pens Googly eyes Glue stick How to make a Superhero bookmark for Father’s Day This little bookmark was my daughter’s idea so we had to follow her instructions. The first step was the children going through our felt supplies and choosing their favourite colours. Then they cut a rough triangle from their chosen colour for their superheroes cape. They…

    EmbellishBox for papercutters {May box}

    I’ve neglected my hobbies in the last few months and hardly spent any time being creative. Unfinished projects have been piling up around me, only making me feel more guilty about not making time for them. I’ve still been receiving the magazines and subscription boxes though! The latest one to arrive on my doorstep was the May EmbellishBox. Each month has a different theme and this months was On Safari. As usual the box contained four #papercutting  templates: Safari Animals, Safari Party, Looking on Safari and a Safari House. I’ve nearly finished the Looking on Safari template. There were some…
