Yesterday we had a practice run on our Halloween cupcakes. The children are excited as we’ve decided to bake our contribution to the school Halloween party. We made chocolate cupcakes with little graveyard cupcake toppers from Felt-o-Ween. They should be good enough for our own Halloween party the following week too. So far I’ve resisted putting up our Halloween decorations. I’m not sure when’s the right time. We have some costumes, Big Brother is a skeleton (in a comfy onesie) and Little Sis will be a witch. My 4 year old is itching to fill a bowl with spooky sweets…

I’ve been Pinning lots of seasonal ideas for our gingerbread baking but totally overlooked making gingerbread for Halloween. Gingerbread has such a lovely smell and taste it’s perfectly suited to these dark evenings and special celebrations. I’ve brought together a list of 16 gingerbread Halloween ideas. Have fun reading through them! You can dress up your gingerbread man as a vampire gingerbread man, gingerdead men, make a spooky mummy for Halloween or even Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. These trick or treat cookies are fun, just simple gingerbread men decorated with chocolate icing or if you fancy something more elaborate take a look at this wonderful Day of the Dead gingerbread…

How To Get The Best Results When Using A Silicone Mould With Flower Paste Have you ever seen a beautiful wedding cake that has delicate lace patterns on it and wondered just how the incredible effect was achieved? Although most sugar-crafters would love to have the skill needed to achieve such a finish the simple fact is that such accuracy is achieved by using flower paste formed into shape in a silicone mould. Using a mould allows incredibly fine and detailed shapes to be created using flower paste which would otherwise be impossible, or at least extremely difficult and time…

Today is my last weekly Summer holiday round up. I’m well aware that all of my friends have waved their children off to a new school term, except me. This morning it’s finally the turn of my 4 year old. I’m both excited that he’s starting a new chapter but also feeling terribly sad about losing him to school. Luckily for me I still have my 2 year old so no worries about my having lots of time on my hands to do the housework or food shopping 🙂 The past week has been quite busy as we’ve packed in…

I was asked if we wanted to take part in the innocent Alphabet Champion challenge. Innocent have recently re-launched their letter magnets which can be found in packs of smoothies. But this time they’re giving you the opportunity to collect enough letters to spell any name you like. They asked me to take some pictures that represent the letter I to share online. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram hopefully you’ve seen some of them. Then they said how great it would be if my pictures related to going back to school or fruit in some way. Let’s…

Our Summer holidays really are nearing the end. Week 6 has been the quietest of them all, we’ve spent a lot of time at home and I seem to have spent most of it struggling to get hold of school uniform! We’ve stayed local, venturing to the cinema to see Planes 2 again and enjoyed a few lunches out. My 4 year old had one of his friends from nursery over to play which was surprisingly fun, even if he did want to play with every toy we have. I’ve managed to give some old shelves the Annie Sloan treatment…

The weather has been so hot recently we haven’t baked anything. The children have been bugging me to create something though so this week I relented and we baked some rainbow jam tarts. I’m no pastry cook so bought some shortcrust pastry and used Fruit Shoot squeezy jams to fill them. Fruit Shoot have recently launched their new range of ‘easy squeezy smooth’ jams. They have no artificial colours, flavours, or sweeteners and come in three different flavours – Strawberry & Summer Fruits, Apple & Blackcurrant and Orange. The children loved rolling out the pastry and got flour everywhere! The…

I hope it’s clear from reading my blog that we love cooking and baking together. My 4 year old has wanted to make pizza for a while and we finally got round to it. We made our pizza over two days, leaving the dough overnight in the airing cupboard. The children were very excited and fortunately patient. Finally the next day they were able to make their pizzas with a little help from daddy. Everyone was able to roll their dough and make their own pizzas. Whilst they were having fun with the dough I prepared a plate of toppings.…

Ella’s Kitchen the organic food brand have just launched their second cook book, The Yellow One, and this time it’s all about BAKING! Late last year we reviewed Ella’s Kitchen cook book, The Red One, and it quickly became one of our favourites cook books and the children have eaten some very tasty meals thanks to it. We were very excited to receive a copy of their new book. With over 100 delicious recipes for chefs both big and small, it’s a great way to get the whole family involved in spending some quality time together having fun in the…
