What I’m reading: Making Bread Together

Posted on May 29, 2014March 26, 2016 by jenny

I hope it’s clear from reading my blog that we love cooking and baking together. My 4 year old has wanted to make pizza for a while and we finally got round to it.

We made our pizza over two days, leaving the dough overnight in the airing cupboard. The children were very excited and fortunately patient.

Finally the next day they were able to make their pizzas with a little help from daddy.  Everyone was able to roll their dough and make their own pizzas. Whilst they were having fun with the dough I prepared a plate of toppings. Once the tomato had been spooned over the dough they could get to work with ham, tomatoes, cucumber and cheese.

Then it was time to bake the pizzas in the oven before eating. The recipe made enough for three pizzas which we enjoyed with some yummy salad. Everyone enjoyed making pizzas and it  was great to make them from so little ingredients, we’ll definitely be making them again!

The recipe came from Making Bread Together: step-by-step recipes for fun and simple breads to make with children by Emmanuel Hadjiandreou. The book aims to inspire children to learn about ingredients, good food and the joys of baking with Emmanuel Hadjiandreou’s easy-to-follow guide to making bread. The fun projects, creative recipes and step-by-step photographs will make kids love spending time in the kitchen with you, making bread for their lunchtime sandwiches and teatime treats for their family and friends.

We still haven’t made home made pizza in our house, It’s something we should definitely give a try. I love how you have shaped the toppings into hearts and stars. My kids would love that! 🙂

Wow they were certainly more patient than I would be. it looks like a fab book. We just bung all our ingredients in the bread maker. The boys know the recipe for pizza dough off my heart as it is a weekly regular

I like cookbooks which are written with children in mind.
It is so important for them to get involved in a fun way.
I will have to look into getting this book.

Its such a good idea to get children interested in cooking healthy food from scratch. At the same time you guys are bonding together.
