We love a public art trail and were delighted to find ourselves at Lyme Regis at the start of the Stampede by the Sea art trail. For eight weeks you can discover a special herd of decorated elephants around Lyme Regis, West Bay and Bridport.
Stampede by the Sea art trail {Lyme Regis}
The free art trail features around fifty elephant sculptures. Each elephant has been designed by an artist and sponsored by a local business. At the end of the trail, each elephant will be sold at auction to raise vital funds for Weldmar Hospicecare, who provide specialist end of life care for local adults with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones.
You can follow the sculpture trail by downloading the app (available from the App Store for £1.99) or pick up a printed map (we saw one in the Weldmar Hospicecare charity shop in Lyme Regis). The app includes a map, you can collect sculptures by adding the unique code on each one which unlocks rewards, as well as giving more information about each sculpture.
Lyme Regis is beautiful and it wasn’t hard to walk along the sea front from the Mary Anning statue to the Cob collecting elephants as we walked. They were all so different and fun!
As well as the large sculptures we also spotted several smaller ones in shops along the High Street. The trail is such a lovely idea and there were lots of families following the trail like us.
The trail is around from Friday 28th March to Tuesday 27th May, 2025. Let me know if you’re going to visit it!
