Simple scrappy ribbon wreath

Simple scrappy ribbon wreath

Today I am taking part in the monthly Recycle & Create challenge: celebrating eco-friendly creativity in children! As a keen sew-er I have a large amount of fabric scraps leftover from craft projects. My son keeps mentioning that when he turns 6 next month he would like to start sewing which I’m really excited about. To get him started I thought we would make a scrappy ribbon wreath.

You will need:
flat wire wreath
scraps of ribbon
scissors

Take your ribbon and cut into small pieces about 8cm long. This was something my son was able to do as he’s really confident with scissors. He was happy to look through my scrap bag and pull out the colours he wanted to use. I showed him how to tie each ribbon with a simple knot around the wire wreath.

Then he started to add ribbons, only around the inner circle.

This is a lovely easy project so when he got bored of cutting or tie-ing, he put it down and went to play. This is a great project which can be added to whenever you have a couple of minutes or need some calm down time. Soon the wreath was filled up with a great mix of colours and ribbons.

We decided to leave the outer ring and added a ribbon to hang it up with.

I love the look of this – simple but so effective. I will try one with my children. Kaz x
