Mother's Day rosette

Mother’s Day Crafting with Cath Kidston

Posted on February 25, 2016January 19, 2020 by jenny

You know by now that I love giving homemade gifts. I never have as much time as I would like but today I want to share with you a gorgeous fabric rosette which can be put together in about 30 minutes and would make a special gift for your mum this Mother’s Day.

The full tutorial can be found over on the Cath Kidston blog and I would like to say a big thank you to them for sending me a hamper of crafty products so I could make my own Mother’s Day rosette. Whilst the children were at school I opened the shutters and sat in the sunshine to enjoy some crafting time.

I received some pretty Richmond Rose fabric which I used as a base for my rosette. I picked a part of the pattern which I wanted to appear on the centre of my rosette, turned it over and placed my button over it. I drew around the button with a water erasable pen, and drew a slightly larger circle around the button.

Using the water erasable pen I wrote the word Mum and a small heart on the right side of the fabric.

I embroidered the word and heart with 3 strands of embroidery thread.

With the embroidery finished, I stitched a line of gathering stitches around the second circle I had drawn. I pulled the thread tight around the button to complete the central part of the rosette.

I used some fabric from my stash  to make the two layers which I stitched behind the central button. I finished it off with a folded length of ribbon which I stitched on the back, along with a safety pin so it can be worn.

I love it and enjoyed sitting down to make something different and it looks pretty good on the pretty Lupin scarf I was sent. Fortunately I have plenty of material left to make another rosette for my mum.

The tutorial for the Mother’s Day Rosette can be found over on the Cath Kidston blog, along with tutorials for a patchwork cushion and delicate paper flowers – perfect for celebrating Mum this Mother’s Day!

Homemade gifts are the best, I wish I was better at crafting, but I’m all fingers and thumbs 🙂
