    DIY Star Wars Day tin can lanterns

    My son is a huge fan of the Star Wars universe and has been planning how to spend May the 4th for a few weeks. Over the last few days he’s enjoyed a glass of blue milk, made BB8 pancakes and even encased his Hans Solo figure in jelly. We had grand plans to make a special Star Wars Day cake but unfortunately it didn’t work as planned. We also decorated the house for Star Wars Day. We hung Star Wars figures on a little tree in our living room and put our Star Wars Day wreath up. We wanted…

    {Giveaway} Big Ideas for Young Thinkers

    Big Ideas for Little Thinkers is a brilliant book to explain the ‘why’ the ‘what’ and the ‘who’ of the most difficult questions to kids. From the author and illustrator team who bought you the hugely popular Young, Gifted and Black. Big Ideas for Young Thinkers What is justice? What is freedom? What is bias? And who gets to have big ideas? Studies show that children ask caregivers 300 questions a day during meals, trips to the market, and before bedtime. This book teachers children to think critically and discuss ideas in a world that needs bright young thinkers. Jamia…

    Recycled wooden pallet union flag

    An invitation to a socially distanced VE Day Street Party popped through our letterbox last week and it was just the reason I needed to create something big. For the last few weeks we’ve had a huge painted rainbow outside our house. We have a window full of rainbows but created a huuuuge rainbow especially for our neighbour who works for the London Ambulance Service. The rainbow isn’t going anywhere but I thought it would be fun to recycle a wooden pallet to make a union flag to display outside our house when we celebrate the anniversary of VE Day…

    Monday Happy List: Life in Lockdown {Week 6}

    Happy May the 4th! I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s usually a post I love to write but obviously life has changed considerably for us and everyone else in the UK over the last few weeks. Life is strange at the moment for everyone but I still want to try and record some of our happier moments. Monday Happy List {Week 290}…

    {Free printable} Print and Colour Your Own Gift Box

    We love giving handmade gifts, and seem to have been posting more care packages to loved ones now we’re unable to see them for a while. We have a lot of time on our hands and making things helps to keep our hands and hearts busy. We’ve been thinking a lot about friends and family and came up with this sweet printable gift box you can print and colour at home, fill with treats, and send to a friend or relative you can’t see at the moment. It would also make a lovely Mother’s Day gift box if you are…

    Sewing in i-sew-lation: my Shipping Forecast quilt

    So I finally finished something! The Shipping Forecast quilt I started (a long time ago) is finally finished and I have to admit that I feel a bit flat without my long-term WIP hanging around. My last update was in March when I had pinned the three layers of my quilt sandwich together. I knew it wouldn’t take me long to finish it. The fabric I had originally bought wasn’t really long enough to use as binding, and my quilt backing shrunk a little as I quilted the layers. I trimmed the edges to make sure they were neat and…

    Free Sunflower Life Cycle Colouring and Writing Book

    Every year we plant sunflower seeds in the hope we will have a stunning display of sunflowers. Every year they seem to get bigger and bigger. This year we have more time on our hands so we turned our wooden pallet mud kitchen into a planting station. It felt good to tidy it all up, sort out our plant pots and seeds and spend time outside. Wooden pallet planting station This year I bought a few extra seed trays and different types of sunflower seeds. I didn’t know there was more than one variety but we bought a pack of…

    Blogger Board Game Club: Concept

    We love being part of Asmodee’s Blogger Board Game Club and were delighted to receive Concept board game to review. We were so pleased to have a new game to add to our collection and Concept has been a huge hit with the whole family. In Concept, your goal is to guess words through the association of icons. A team of two players choose a word or phrase that the other players need to guess. Acting together, this team places pieces on the available icons on the game board. To get others to guess “milk”, for example, the team might place…

    How to celebrate 75 years since VE Day

    Our Early May Bank Holiday was moved this year to the 8th May to commemorate 75 years since VE Day. VE Day – or Victory in Europe Day – is marked on 8th May and commemorates the Allies accepting the surrender of Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Events were planned over a 3 day weekend to mark this anniversary but sadly they’ve all been cancelled due to the pandemic. We were looking forward to a street party and events at school. How to celebrate 75 years since VE Day The VE Day anniversary will be another event that…
