My son is a huge fan of the Star Wars universe and has been planning how to spend May the 4th for a few weeks. An invitation to a socially distanced VE Day Street Party popped through our letterbox last week and it was just the reason I needed to create something big. For the last few weeks we’ve had a huge painted rainbow outside our house. We have a window full of rainbows but created a huuuuge rainbow especially for our neighbour who works for the London Ambulance Service. So I finally finished something! The Shipping Forecast quilt I started (a long time ago) is finally finished and I have to admit that I feel a bit flat without my long-term WIP hanging around. My last update was in March when I had pinned the three layers of my quilt sandwich together. I knew it wouldn’t take me long to finish it. Every year we plant sunflower seeds in the hope we will have a stunning display of sunflowers. Every year they seem to get bigger and bigger. This year we have more time on our hands so we turned our wooden pallet mud kitchen into a planting station. It felt good to tidy it all up, sort out our plant pots and seeds and spend time outside. Our Early May Bank Holiday was moved this year to the 8th May to commemorate 75 years since VE Day. VE Day – or Victory in Europe Day – is marked on 8th May and commemorates the Allies accepting the surrender of Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Events were planned over a 3 day weekend to mark this anniversary but sadly they’ve all been cancelled due to the pandemic. We were looking forward to a street party and events at school.
