We’re lucky to have a spare room for friends and family to come and stay. It is well used but was in desperate need of a makeover. It’s quite a dark room, filled with a spare bed, vintage chest of drawers and lots of bookshelves. A few months ago we painted all the walls white and put up a gorgeous Orla Kiely wallpaper on the end wall. We chose the Orla Kiely Multi Striped Petal but looking back over my blog I can’t seem to find a finished photo of the room.
We changed the position of the bed and finally put up the Orla Kiely lampshade I’ve had for years. It’s in her classic cars print and I don’t think it matters that it clashes with the wallpaper.
Putting the finishing touches to our spare room
The final thing we changed was the blind. It had been in the room when we bought the house and had narrow slats which made it difficult to clean. We desperately needed a new blind so ordered a lovely wooden Venetian blind from Made to Measure Blinds UK. We wanted the blind to match the others in our house, don’t ask me why we didn’t order one for this room when we did the rest of the house….
They have a really handy measuring guide so we were able to order the size, colour and finish of the blind we needed online. It arrived a week later and my husband put it up the next day! It really finishes off the room perfectly. We opted for wide slats so it will be as easy to keep clean as the blinds in the rest of the house. It gives privacy to whoever stays in the room and gives the room a real contemporary feel.
I’m so pleased we have finished our spare room. We have been pretty busy doing lots of jobs around the house recently so it’s all looking really good. The next job is to replace the carpet in my son’s bedroom with wooden flooring. I’m not looking forward to moving him out of his room whilst we do it. His room looks a little like a toy shop and I have no idea where we’re going to put all his Lego whilst we do it!
Disclosure – we received the blind from Made to Measure Blinds in return for a review
