Our 2021 home improvement plans

Disclosure – this is a sponsored post

For the last 3 months we’ve had a house guest. It has been lovely to have the grown up company, and babysitter on tap, but now they have finally moved out. For three months our spare room was in use and one of the side effects of this was that we didn’t make any changes to our house in this time. However as soon as our guest moved out it gave us a chance to move things around.

Our 2021 home improvement plans

The spare room is usually a bit of a dumping ground. It holds extra furniture we don’t know what to do with, bags of donations for the charity shop and food we don’t have room for.  It also has a spare bed and plenty of storage, a large window and is the perfect cool temperature in summer.

I love to give our downstairs living areas a little seasonal freshen up. Sometimes it’s just changing the cushions over or hanging a new picture up. Other times it can be a bigger change, such as a new rug, flooring or piece of furniture.

With our mortgage coming up for renewal we are taking the opportunity to take money out of the mortgage for some home improvements. We’ve spent a lot of time at home over the last 16 months and I don’t think that will end any time soon. It seems a good time to invest in our home and make it a lovely place to be.

New wooden floors

We have a few areas we want to work on. First up is replacing the flooring in the upstairs of our house. This is a job we’ve put off for so long but really needs doing. For some reason we have done my husband’s home office and my son’s room, but we need to do the landing and other bedrooms. I’ve been looking for a wood flooring sale online and found some great deals.

A comfortable new bed

One of the first purchases we made when we bought our new house was a King sized bed for us. It was a wonderful bed but did you know you should replace your bed frame and mattress every 6 to 8 years? Our bed frame has been creaking and we really wanted a firmer mattress so we have ordered a new bed. Unfortunately it takes 6 weeks to be sent out but I am really looking forward to sleeping in my new bed.

Air conditioning

Our third project is getting an air conditioning unit installed in our bedroom. We have had a free-standing unit for the last few years but it is big and bulky. We have booked in a unit for our bedroom which should be installed in the next week or two. My daughter will be able to have the free standing air conditioner in her room. I just hope the weather improves so we can use and enjoy it.

These projects will keep us busy for the remainder of 2021 and help make our dream home.

Air conditioning is a godsend. We bought our units to fit last summer but my fiance has only just started to get round to installing them (typical men!) But I do count myself very lucky that he’s qualified to do it with his dad x

Interesting to read about your plans. Air conditioning would have been a godsend last week when it was so hot, but till now I’ve always felt there weren’t enough very hot days in Britain to justify the cost. However, with global warming that could certainly change. I guess it’s something I might have to look into.
