It has been an embarrassingly long time since I wrote an update about the Shipping Forecast Quilt I have been stitching. In fact the one and only update I have posted was back in May 2015! I am a little red-faced right now. As part of 2018 and my Year of Craft I am trying to finish my WIP’s and this is my biggest one. So I eventually located my project bag and had time to look at it. I hadn’t really made as much progress as I thought I had. My Shipping Forecast Quilt update This quilt is based…

This year is all about me making things. Finishing projects. This doesn’t come naturally to me. So far this year I’ve stitched the felt bus pincushion and now I can add the sashiko panel to my list. I picked up all the supplies at the Spring Knitting & Stitching Show last year. I bought the panel, special needles and thread. Then it sat in my cupboard for 10 months. I couldn’t read the Japanese instructions so I just searched online for instructions. Sashiko is a Japanese running stitch. The pre-printed panel featured a rabbit inside a circle which seemed pretty…

Every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new. Mollie Makes Custard Cream Keyring Kit Issue 82 contained the Mollie Makes Custard Cream Keyring Kit designed by Nikki McWilliams. The little kit contained 15cm square if printed cotton fabric, soft toy stuffing, a needle, thread and keyring. I love Nikki McWilliams and even went on one of her…

My 5 year old loves playing super heroes. A few weeks ago her friends came over and it was funny watching them all dress up in whatever we had – which mainly consisted of a Captain America shield and helmet, Iron Man hands and lots of Star Wars lightsabers…. I really wanted to have a go at making simple felt superhero masks so whipped some up using different coloured felt. I used the template from the Duck Tape masks I made a while ago. Five minute felt superhero masks I used paper mask template sheets of coloured felt elastic basic…

Every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new. I skipped last month’s cover gift (issue 79) as it was a set of buttons and a booklet of ideas. I didn’t find them particularly inspiring and couldn’t come up with a way of using them so they’ve been added to my button stash. Issue 80 contained a…

As a fabric addict I was pretty delighted when I heard about two new craft books from Juliet Bawden and Amanda Russell. Fat Quarter: Home and Fat Quarter: Quick Makes feature 25 projects to make from short lengths of fabrics. I can’t resist buying Fat Quarters when I see pretty fabrics, and my 7 year old seems to have caught my habit too. Yes, our fabric stash is bursting with FQs but I often can’t think of projects which would use them up. All that is about to change with the publication of these two titles. Fabric stashers need never feel guilty again…

Every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new. I skipped the March issue as it contained a loom kit, the same as in issue 58 (and made here). I gave the kit to my sister so hopefully she has made something cute to hang up in her house. Issue 78 of Mollie Makes came with an…

It’s been a very long time since I participated in a craft swap. My free time is very short at the moment and I’m hardly spending any time papercutting or sewing. However, the latest Very Berry Hoop Swap really appealed to me so I signed up. The idea was quite simple. To purchase a miniature embroidery hoop (measuring just 4.5cm across) and fill it with some handmade textile art. I purchased a dandelyne miniature embroidery hoop from Cloud Craft and turned to Pinterest for some inspiration. There was almost too long to think about this swap – 8 weeks from signing…
