The title of my post might seem vaguely familiar if you are a regular reader of my blog. This time last year I was potty training my son, fast forward 12 months and I find myself doing it all again with his little sister. We have books, a potty, Big Girl pants and now a reward chart with her name on. Thanks to Stuck on You Little Sis has the nicest Potty Training Charts in town. There are a couple of designs to choose from, we went for the Fairy/Princess theme as my daughter is obsessed with Disney Princesses at…

Little Sis is almost two and a half and I find myself caught between wanting her to attend nursery for a few more hours a week (!) and not wanting her to grow up. She is very independent and hates being told what to do (not sure where she gets that from) and I need to let her grow up a little. We recently ditched the dummy which wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be and she barely wants a noo noo any more. She used to always have a dummy and noo noo (a muslin) but she…

The last week has been very busy in the gingerbread household. I’m not sure why everything has happened at once but the toddler was finally potty trained, started at his new pre-school and Little Sis has given up her dummy (during the day) and had a haircut. All this happened with quite a lot of screams, shouts and tears. The toddler finally started at his pre-school and I’m pleased to say he was potty trained by the time he went. Potty training took up a surprising amount of time and it feels like we tried everything – books, reward charts,…

London Open House weekend has to be one of my favourite weekends in London. Hundreds of buildings throw open their doors and over the years I’ve visited some brilliant ones, from the Foreign and Commonwealth Offices to the Old Operating Theatre, Barnardo’s Village in Barkingside to Ally Pally and the London Eye. Since having children we’ve visited less buildings but we’ve still managed to get out and about. Now the children are that little bit easier to manage and we live in a different part of London it feels like we have so many new places to visit. I look…

I’m definitely feeling that life is on the change again. We’ve moved house, have settled into our new area of very quiet suburbia (only shattered by our family – naturally!) and are very happily finding our feet. The toddler has been to look at his new school which is LOVELY and I’ve been to a parents meeting. In a couple of weeks we’ll start a new routine. I know it’s only five afternoons a week but that’s a big change for our little threesome. We do have a couple of major things to do before then. Like potty train. You…

Many moons ago I signed up to host the BritMums Carnival and my time has finally arrived! Today I bring to you some brilliant posts from the best parenting bloggers about ….. potty training! Forgive me for the theme but potty training is currently headlining at the gingerbread house and I am in need of tips, advice and useful products to help ease the transition from nappies to big boy pants for my reluctant toddler. The parenting blogging community have generously shared some brilliant posts. Whether the potty years are far behind you or you are in need of some…

My toddler will be 3 next month, I’m not quite sure where the time has gone but I have one amazing little boy. We’ve been talking about potty training for a while now. We have a potty, we have training pants, we read books about going to the toilet and we have a reward chart. Nothing seems to be happening. I’m not in any rush to get him potty trained as I know that wouldn’t be beneficial to anyone, he just doesn’t seem that interested -still. We always encourage him to tell us when he needs a nappy change and…

The toddler is almost two and a half and shows no interest in potty training at all. We have a potty, he’s seen it and might have sat on it once but soon filled it with toys and I put it away again. We’ve bought pull-up pants but he really didn’t like them so they’re sitting under the stairs, waiting until he’s ready. His nursery have said they will start sticking him on the toilet after every nappy change from September so I am keen to introduce him to the concept so he’s not taken by surprise. We were out…

I was really shocked to hear on the news today that a significant number of children are starting primary school who haven’t been potty trained. I’ve read lots of blogs which have shown me how hard potty training can be but it’s definitely on my to do list this year. Big Brother will be 2 next month and is showing some signs of being aware when he needs a clean nappy. Although I won’t be rushing him into it I definitely aim to have him potty trained by the time he starts school as I know it’s my responsibility, not…
