I couldn’t resist. Today I put the Christmas bedding on and bought some candy canes. I know the two aren’t related but it’s a sign that Christmas is coming! I quite enjoy when our Elf on the Shelf comes to visit and I have planned plenty of activities to keep him busy in the run up to Christmas. Our Christmas Elf always packs the children’s lunches in Christmas wrapping paper. This year I’ve gone one step further and made some  free printable Elf lunchbox notes to slip inside the children’s lunchboxes. Printable Elf Lunchbox Notes I thought I would share…

17 new Elf on the Shelf antics

Although I wasn’t entirely sure about bringing back our Book Advent (but I’m glad we did) I knew our two Christmas elves would be making an appearance on December 1st. We have two elves, one for each child, who bring the children’s Advent calendars and stay around to make sure they are having fun during December. This is a family Christmas tradition which we started a few years ago. In preparation for December 1st I found the Elf surveillance camera and sign, the two elves and started to plan some of the daily activities. Now I’m working it was essential…

Easy Elf Snot Slime and The Curiosity Box

A few months ago I won a subscription to The Curiosity Box. This is a science subscription box for kids and I was pretty pleased to win it as my 7 year old just loves science and I love trying subscription boxes. I have to admit that the boxes have been stacking up as we’ve been so busy. However, when the December box landed, and we discovered it was a SLIME box, well we just had to open it straight away. 24 new Elf on the Shelf ideas

December is such a busy month for any parent. Sometimes I wonder why I make life extra hard for myself but whilst the children are young we have an Elf on the Shelf. I bought our Elf on the Shelf from Amazon a few years ago. It was really expensive at the time but they are a lot more affordable now. It came in a presentation box with a story book. The idea of the Elf on a Shelf is that he keeps an eye on children during December, reporting good and bad behaviour back to Father Christmas. It’s definitely a…

Preparing for the Elf on a Shelf

A couple of years ago we started the Elf on a Shelf tradition in our house. I know not everyone likes the idea of Elf on a Shelf but I think it’s fun and so do my children. Last year was the first year I managed to move him every day of Advent and you can see a round up of what the Elf got up to in this post. As well as our Elf we have the book he came with, An Elf Story. I also bought a little elf door to explain how he arrived in our house.…

24 Elf on the Shelf ideas that work

Apologies, this is going to be a picture heavy post. For the last few years we’ve been visited by an elf. He arrives on December 1st with our Advent crate and disappears on the 24th, leaving us a Christmas Eve crate. I see a lot of negative press about Elf on the Shelf and I’m not really sure why. He is not there to shock the children into behaving. In fact he’s a little silly and tries to do something different every day to make them smile. My children are 5 and 6 so I’m not sure how long they…

There is so much going on at this time of year but when my 5 year old daughter turned to me and asked me to make her a elf hat I couldn’t resist. I whipped up an elf hat in an hour and I thought I would share it here in case it was helpful, I find you can never have enough festive dressing up gear at this time of year.
