I can’t quite believe a year has gone by since I last visited The Stitch Festival at the Business Design Centre. I really enjoyed my day there (celebrating dressmaking, embroidery, crochet, cross stitch and quilting) so booked a ticket to visit, as well as three workshops so I could learn some new skills. The Stitch Festival 2025 The Business Design Centre is a quick walk from Angel tube station, so pretty easy to get to from our corner of London. My first class was at 10.30 so I was able to have a quick look round some of the stalls…

I can’t quite believe a whole year has gone since our last visit to Crufts. 12 months ago we took a tween to Crufts, this time round we had a teenager. A trip to Crufts with a teen Our last visit was on the weekend and it was so busy we decided that if we went back it would be on a week day. Fortunately the day we picked was Toy dog day which was perfect because we have a Bichon Frise! We had a couple of things we wanted to do: spend time in the main arena and spend…

If you are looking for a wet weather activity for teens then I would recommend indoor go karting. My teens love go karting and we thought we would try the new track at Teamsport High Wycombe. This wasn’t the easiest venue to find inside the Eden Centre, but once we had walked around the shopping centre for a while we found it and booked in. Go Karting at Teamsport High Wycombe We’ve been indoor and outdoor go karting quite a few times, most recently to the Teamsport track at Watford. The High Wycombe venue feels similar, we were given overalls…

In January we combined a trip to Milton Keynes to see the Vanessa Bell exhibition with a trip to The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park. We spotted the museum on a visit to Bletchley Park back in 2019 and promised we would return one day. The National Museum of Computing with teenagers At The National Museum of Computing you can immerse yourself in the evolution of computing from the pioneering efforts of the 1940s to the rise of personal computing in the 1980s and beyond. Both my kids love their tech so I thought they would enjoy a…

Our youngest teen suggested she would like to try axe throwing so I found Game of Throwing in Hammersmith. With both teenagers on a half term break I booked an hour session so we could try axe throwing with Game of Throwing. Axe throwing with Game of Throwing It turns out that both teens have tried axe throwing a few times with Scouts so it was just us parents who needed some help from the Axe Master. We were shown our lane and given a brief introduction to the set up. Our hour session meant we could choose from the…

If you are looking for something to do with the kids this half term then I have a great idea for older kids, The World of Tim Burton at the Design Museum in London. We are a family who love to watch films together and have been fans of Tim Burton for a long time. The teens love Beetlejuice and Wednesday, so we knew they would love to find out more about Tim Burton. The World of Tim Burton London with teenagers Drawn from Tim Burton’s personal archive and representing his creative output from childhood to the present day, this…

We recently found ourselves in the pretty Hampshire town of Andover and discovered there was a cat cafe there. My son loves cats so we booked a slot to have some tea and cakes whilst enjoying being surrounded by cats (we love a cat cafe!). A trip to the Andover Catfe A cat cafe is a delightful spot where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while being surrounded by adorable, friendly cats. These cafes are designed to offer a cozy, relaxing atmosphere where you can unwind and interact with resident cats. It’s a purr-fect place for cat…

Did you know that in 2025 we will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen, one of my favourite British authors. She is as popular as ever and we are looking forward to having the opportunity to celebrate her life and works this year. We are already hooked on Miss Austen, the tv adaptation of Miss Austen by Gill Hornby, and we are looking forward to finding out about all of the events happening this year. Exploring Jane Austen’s House in Chawton A few years ago we decided to visit Jane Austen’s house is Chawton. This…
