A little room for improvement

I love a challenge and was excited to be asked to take part in the latest one from MoneySupermarket.com, to improve a room of my choice within my home. As you all know we only moved into our new house last month so it was pretty difficult to decide which room to improve.

I settled on Little Sis’s room as she moved into her own bedroom when we moved house. Considering she had shared with us from the day she was born, the transition to her own room went completely unnoticed by her. I miss her little sniffles and snores but she is happy as anything on her own. Anyway, the room was already painted pink so it was just a case of making it her own.

Before we started her room was furnished with her cot bed which I had previously decorated with a cross stitched heart mural, two chests of drawers, a vintage Lloyd Loom chair and a couple of unpacked boxes.

I’m embarrassed to show you the ‘before’ shots but (I keep telling myself) we only moved in 4 weeks ago and at 18 months she is the least likely to complain about the mess! It’s a lovely bright and sunny room and it was fun to spend time thinking about what Little Sis would like. I’m really not a pink person but the colour seems to be taking over our house lately.

There’s a brilliant interiors shop called Sass and Belle in Covent Garden. I knew that I would find the perfect little things for her room so made a quick dash there during the lunch break at Cybher (a blogging conference) yesterday.

I managed to get some lovely items for my budget of £50. First of all we changed her over-the-top chandelier for a simple fabric floral lampshade.

Next we made an outline of a dolls house on the wall above her chest of drawers using floral washi tape. It’s quite large but makes a great wall decoration.

The vintage chest of drawers (gifted by my Father in Law) was covered in a vintage embroidered tablecloth from my stash of vintage linens. I added a wire heart picture frame, some vintage scrabble tiles (from my stash), my Blythe doll and covered a large letter N in a colourful fabric sticker.

Little Sis loves her books so we updated her bigbooklittlebookcardboard box, which is still going strong, with more floral fabric stickers.

Finally, bunting was hung over her cot bed spelling out her name. There was just enough money leftover to purchase some Fat Quarters of fabric from Pam Kitty Morning, making her a pretty pillow case and comforter for her cot bed.

Phew!

This was beginning to feel like an epic makeover but it just shows you what you can get for your money if you shop carefully 🙂 Little Sis also has a huge walk-in cupboard at the end of her room. For the moment we’ve hung the framed vintage jigsaw puzzles, which Big Brother used to enjoy in his room, on either side of the door. I’m thinking it might be nice to paint the cupboard door with blackboard paint to give her something to draw on, but that’s for another day.
