What I made in August 2024

Posted on August 31, 2024September 1, 2024 by jenny

August felt like such a busy month with the kids on their school summer holidays. We were away a lot but I packed my Liberty Tumbling Blocks which was the perfect size for whipping out when I had five minutes. I made up a lot of blocks and have stitched them into strips to add to the bottom. I love watching it come together.

Liberty Tumbling Blocks

During our family trip to Normandy we were able to go and view the Bayeux Tapestry which had been on my bucket list for ages. Although it was busy we were able to get close to the embroidery and look at each panel whilst listening to a commentary about what had happened. It was amazing seeing it up close.

We saw lots more textiles on a trip to the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum. One reconstructed house had lots of pretty rag rugs in. My mum always tells me how her gran made rag rugs. I would love to try making them one day, my dog obviously found them pretty comfortable to sit on too!

Last month I stitched two Cotton Clara kits. The first was a sweet little cherries hoop which I did whilst we were in Normandy. I also made a cross stitch bookmark featuring mugs of tea. My Cotton Clara subscription box arrived last week so I have been enjoying the summery embroidery hoop.

I purchased my tickets for the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally and booked my workshops too as I always leave these so late and everything I want to do is sold out. I booked three workshops: Foundation Paper Pieced Liberty Hearts, Hand Quilting for Beginners, and Stitch, Patch and Play with Jessie Chorley. Not long to wait now.

Don’t forget we added another crochet tutorial with a crochet tutorial to make cherries which you can find here.

Sounds like you had a really busy time! I feel more busy with back to school than I did during the holidays if I am honest.

I’m so inspired by your Liberty Tumbling Blocks project and your visit to the Bayeux Tapestry.

You really have got a pair of creative hands on you. I’d love to make some pieces myself
