How to crochet a Halloween ghost

How to crochet a Halloween ghost

Posted on October 4, 2023July 7, 2024 by jenny

October surely means Halloween and I love a little project I can work on in the evening. This year I’ve experimented with crochet and whipped up a few little ghosts. I thought I would share instructions on how to crochet a Halloween ghost for your Halloween decor this year.

List of supplies:

Crochet yarn – medium light

Crochet hook – 3.5mm

A pair of scissors

Tapestry needle

How to crochet a Halloween ghost:

Select a white yarn bundle for the ghost base shape. Start with a slip knot and work 6 chain stitches.

Skip the chain next to the hook and insert it into the next chain.

Work a single crochet into that chain.

Work 1 SC into each of the chain stitches. You should have 5 chain stitches.

Chain one on hook and flip the crochet pattern.

Work 2 SC into the 1st and last chain stitches of this row and work 1 SC into each of the chains between. You should have 7 chain stitches.

Chain 1 and flip again.

Repeat the previous process; Work 2 SC into the 1st and last chain stitches of this row and work 1 SC into each of the chains between. You’ll have 9 chain stitches now.

Work 2 or 3 more SC crochet rows next.

For the last row, we’re doing a scalloped border. Chain and flip pattern. Work the following stitches in the next stitches, 1 DC, 1 TC, 1 DC and 1 ST into the next 4 chain stitches.

Repeat the 4 stitches 2 more times.

Finish the scalloped border with a slip stitch.

Now, start working a SC border around the entire crochet pattern.

Done working around the border? Work a slip stitch and cut off extra yarn leaving a few inches. Use a tapestry needle to stitch the remaining yarn on the backside of the crochet ghost pattern to secure the open end.

Use black yarn and tapestry needle to stitch the eyes and mouth of the crochet ghost and use pink yarn to crochet the blushes.

Hopefully the instructions helped you make your own little Halloween crochet ghost. How will you use them? So far I’ve made a couple but I think more would look fun on a wreath for our front door to welcome any Trick or Treaters this Halloween.
