I love crochet and it feels like this is the time of year I can start thinking about adding some autumnal decorations to our home. I’ve been making crochet maple leaves which I think would look perfect strung along some fairy lights over the mantlepiece. Although there are quite a few steps, if you know some basic crochet stitches, these crochet maple leaves come together in no time.
List of supplies to make crochet maple leaves:
Crochet yarn – medium light
Crochet hook – 3.5mm
A pair of scissors
Tapestry needle
How to crochet maple leaves:
Select an autumnal coloured yarn bundle for the crochet maple leaf pattern and start with a slip knot. Work 6 or 7 chain stitches.
Form a loop with the chain stitches by working a slip stitch through the first chain stitch.
Chain one and then work 11 SC (single crochet) into the loop.
Close the first row by working a slip stitch through the first top chain stitch of that round.
For the second row, work 2 chain stitches. Work a DC (double crochet) into the nearest chain stitch.
Close the second round of DC by working a slip stitch through the first top chain stitch of that round.
Work 2 DC into the nearest stitch.
Work 2 TC (treble crochet) into the same stitch.
Work a picot stitch next.
Work 2 DC into the same stitch again.
Skip the next chain stitch and then work a slip stitch into the 2nd next chain stitch. One of the 5 tips of the crochet fall leaf is ready.
Repeat the same process to crochet another fall leaf tip. Next, we will crochet the big, middle tip of the leaf.
Work 2 DC, 2 TC into the same chain stitch for the 3rd tip. And then work a picot crochet stitch at the top.
Work 2 TC, 2 DC into the same stitch next. Skip the next chain stitch and work a slip stitch into the 2nd next chain stitch.
For the last 2 small tips, the crochet pattern will be slightly different than the first 2 small tips. Work 2 DC and then work a picot stitch.
Work 2 TC, 2 DC into the same chain stitch to form the 4th tip. Skip the next chain stitch like we did before and work a slip stitch into the stitch.
Repeat the process to crochet the 5th and last leaf tip.
Chain 4 on hook.
Skip the chain stitch next to the hook and then work 1 SC (single crochet) into the next 2 chain stitches.
Work a slip stitch into the adjacent chain stitch of thee base pattern and pull out a few inches of the yarn.
Cut off extra yarn and use a tapestry needle to stitch the remaining yarn at the backside of the fall leaf pattern.
I used some pretty autumnal coloured yarn to make these but you could use any coloured yarn you have.
