Last year we bought my daughter a play kitchen. It’s one of her favourite toys and has led to some really fun play times. She prepares her play food, makes us meals, organises tea parties for her dolls and sets up shop too. This was a really great purchase!
Today it’s raining (again!) so I thought it would be fun to make our own food. We’ve made felt food before but I wanted to try and use some products from our recycling box so we made cardboard cookies.
Materials for cardboard cookies:
recycled cardboard, brown if possible
cookie cutters
white pen
scissors
sequins, stars and glitter to decorate
How to make cardboard cookies:
Draw around your chosen cookie cutters and cut out carefully. We made a mixture of gingerbread men, stars and gingerbread houses.
Decorate with sequins, sticker stars and glitter as you would real cookies. My 4 year old used a white pen to decorate his with pretend icing.
We placed ours on a baking tray when they were decorated.
We think they’re good enough to eat!
This was a really quick and easy craft which the 3 and 4 year old enjoyed.
Once again I have joined up with some other parent bloggers to share some fun indoor play ideas during this cold snap. Check out the other play ideas here:

No sew bean bags for a game of bean bag toss

What a fun idea – and much less mess!
Those are so cute!!!
My ideal type of cooking – no calories involved!
This is such an easy idea! I’d been planning on making toy cookies with the kids, but I love this mess-free idea — I can set the preschoolers up for this while putting the babies down for a nap and not worry about what I’ll return to find!
Pinned and shared!
