Easy Duck Tape storage bowl

Easy Duck Tape storage bowl

Posted on August 19, 2020 by jenny

Disclosure – post in collaboration with Duck Tape

I was recently gifted some gorgeous new Duck Tapes to play with. There are some really lovely patterned Duck Tapes out there and I’m using this gorgeous marble Duck Tape to make something pretty but practical for my daughter’s bedroom. Duck Tape is a brilliant craft material (check out some of our Duck Tape tutorials here), as not only is it easy to reposition, but you can also tear it by hand.

Supplies to make a Duck Tape storage bowl

Your favourite patterned Duck Tape

piece of paper

scissors

4 metal fasteners/brads

First take a small piece of paper, I used 10cm x 10cm, and cover one side in Duck Tape. Trim the edges to keep it neat, turn over and cover the other side in a different patterned Duck Tape. I used Marble Duck Tape and plain black Duck Tape on the other side.

Make a small cut with scissors, or a scalpel, 3cm from each corner towards the centre.

Make a small hole with the end of the scissors or the scalpel in the corners of the front two flaps. Turn your Duck Tape sheet 180° and make two more small holes in the same place.

Now comes the fun part! Gently fold the flaps around the edge of your Duck Tape bowl, you will need to encourage it into shape with your hands. When you have the storage bowl in the correct shape with the edges flat along the top of the bowl you can carefully push a brad through the hole and through the second layer of Duck Tape. It sounds complicated but it’s not! The Duck Tape is thin enough that you can push the brad through and push back the metal to hold it in place. Do this 4 times and you will have a perfect little Duck Tape storage bowl.

Duck Tape craft for teens

This would make a great project for tweens and teens. I love that you can easily personalise your storage pot by choosing your favourite Duck Tape. Perhaps it will even encourage them to keep their rooms a little bit tidy?

It’s simple to scale the size of the storage pot up or down. We made a larger storage pot for cotton pads which measures 20cm x 20cm, as well as a container for hand sanitiser. The Marble Duck Tape is lovely, I wonder what else we could customise with Duck Tape?
