Summer Holidays edit {Week 306}

Posted on August 24, 2020 by jenny

I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I love to write. The Summer holidays are rushing by so fast and we seem to be packing a lot in to our weeks.

Summer Holidays edit {Week 306}

The children spent last week at Iver Environment Centre. They took part in Wild Week which was packed full of activities such as pond dipping, bushcraft, film making, fire lighting, den building, construction and art. The staff were amazing and they had so much fun, got to play with other children, and learn lots of new skills. The weather was good and they spent most of the week outdoors (and slept really well all week!). On the last day we were able to go and see what they had got up to each day and they gave us a tour of the site. They loved their week at Iver and can hopefully go again soon.

With the children out I was able to indulge in some crafting. I had fun with some new patterned Duck Tape, added to my little book of Liberty fabrics, made resin flowers and started on my new You Can Folk It kit.

I went into work last week to get our classrooms ready for September. I work in a Secondary school and am really apprehensive about returning to the classroom in September. The school holidays are flying by though and we picked up the children’s new school shoes on Saturday. We made sure to visit Clarks nice and early. By the time we had finished the queue was out of the door and down the street! Everything is labelled and ready to go, we just have to enjoy the last week of our holidays at home.

Although the children were busy we still had some great local walks. We went blackberry picking whilst we took the pup out one evening, and visited the West London Racing Centre so the children could practice driving their RC cars, as well as Rickmansworth Aquadrome.

We also found plenty of time to play at home. The children just love Dobble 360°, and we also built the new Build Your Own Microscope Kit, played with a new Jelli Rez kit and tried to get to grips with Pass the Bomb! We are enjoying our family time at the moment as it won’t be long before the madness of the school week starts up again.

We are so excited for the last full week of our summer holidays!

    It is great to hear that you and your kids are having some kind of normal back in your lives. I understand your apprehension regarding school opening. My grandson is doing full online learning. His school has set up a virtual classroom style of teaching. We wish for this pandemic to be over soon so we can have the lockdown restrictions lifted in our area.

    Awwww no way! I used to work in Iver Heath! 🙂 I imagine it has all changed somewhat since I lived there, I don’t recall an Environment Centre, but the pond dipping sounds awesome! We really need to have a catch up on refreshing things before Secondary school starts in 2 weeks! Hope you are having a lovely start to the week! Sim x

    Having walks is always great, I know that being at home can get too much sometimes so having fresh air is always nice!

    It sounds like you’re having a great time! Really hope the return to work goes smoothly, as a restaurant worker I remember how anxious I was returning to work when we re-opened and looking back, the fear and anxiety was far worse than the reality.

    I agree, the summer holidays just seem to be zooming by! Back to school definitely crept up on me this year (perhaps because I was all out of sorts from lockdown maybe?) but we managed to get school shoes today so are pretty much ready to go now. The Iver environment centre sounds fab and the activities sound awesome, my two would love that! Glad you managed to find a bit of time for yourself too, it is so important for a bit of a refuel isnt it! x
