Monday Happy List: Life in Lockdown {Week 2}

Posted on April 6, 2020 by jenny

I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s usually a post I love to write but obviously life has changed considerably for us and everyone else in the UK over the last few weeks. Life is hard at the moment for everyone but I still want to try and record some of our happier moments.

Monday Happy List {Week 286}

It’s been pretty hard trying to get the children to do much school work at home. The teachers have given them plenty of work but it has been hard to motivate them. We’ve been concentrating on Maths and English and then made sure to learn in other ways. We’ve played games, sat around colouring or crafting and played in the garden and even washed the cars. We’ve baked a lot too, last week included Easter biscuits, bread, sausage rolls, brownies and bread and butter pudding!

My son was really excited about pranking us all on April Fool’s Day this year. He carefully planned some jokes so I decided to plan my own April Fool’s Day joke. I presented the children with a plate of brown E’s, yes brown cardboard letter E’s, instead of the brownies they thought they were getting!

We’re looking forward to Easter this weekend. It will be sad not spending it with the family but we’re still going to try and have a good time. This year we’ve shared some new Easter crafts including our recycled cardboard Easter chicks, Easter Egg Hunt sign and personalised Easter bunny holders.

I finally finished my Shipping Forecast quilt. I bought some gorgeous Liberty binding and hand stitched it. I feel a bit deflated now I’ve finished it so I need to start on something else!

Yesterday we had a BBQ as the weather was so amazing over the weekend. We’re lucky to live on the outskirts of London so have plenty of access to green spaces. We’ve been discovering all kids of fields and tracks we never knew existed which is amazing (especially for our pup). After two weeks of no social contact we’re all beginning to feel the strain though. The kids decorated the table with Dutch flags and pictures as we decided The Netherlands was our happy place after our lovely holidays at Duinrell. Hopefully we can make pancakes or some other Dutch treats with them.

Stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

    This post is such a lovely idea and a great way to record your week. The next few weeks will probably look very similar to this one but once we are through lockdown and can go out again I am sure youll have so much to plan!

    I entered week four of total lockdown, we are not allowed to go for walks or do sports outdoors at all, only to go to the supermarket. I think that by now I got used to it and started to feel a bit more productive again. Waiting for better days….

    It has been a struggle sometimes to get Jack to do his schoolwork too. We’ve been trying out different activities recently just to break up the monotony of the schoolwork. We are all definitely starting to feel the strain.

    That quilt is amazing, I can’t wait to see what you make next. We struggle getting ours to focus and I’m really pleased it’s the holidays right now!!

    I can’t imagine how tough it is keeping the kids occupied especially when trying to home school them. Just know you’re doing your best and no one is going to be able to do this perfectly as that’s not real life x

    That quilt is so lovely. Glad you’ve found some open spaces for walks. It’s the only thing keeping us sane!

    Seems like a good week, it was great that the weather was much nicer, and a great chance to have a BBQ,we’ve found it getting harder and harder to motivate our children, though technically its now easter holidays so Im letting them have a break for two weeks.

    Love that you played an April Fools Prank on the kids, we didn’t and regret it as I think it would have made their day

    I can imagine that its a challenge with homeschooling but it seems like you are doing fine! I am jealous of being able to enjoy the outskirts of London, I am in lockdown in Spain and cant go outside since we don’t have a garden 🙂
