5 minute April Fool's Day joke for kids

5 minute April Fool’s Day joke for kids

Posted on April 1, 2020March 13, 2021 by jenny

Did you do anything to mark April Fool’s Day today? We don’t usually do anything but this year my 10 year old wanted to play a joke on each member of the family. His ideas were fun, ranging from switching the tea and coffee jars around in the cupboard to annoy me, changing the dust covers on the books his sister is reading, and pretending he broke his dad’s RC car. The jokes were well thought out and made us all giggle.

I wanted to play a small April Fool’s Day joke on the kids. I know many people are not marking it this year in light of the pandemic, but I think we need to grab on to these small things which bring routine or a smile into our lives. Anyway, I have the simplest 5 minute April Fool’s Day joke for kids which made one of my children laugh and the other CRY! Yes, bad mother of the year award goes to me….

My 8 year old just adores chocolate brownies so I whipped up a plateful of yummy looking brownies. The problem was that my brownies were made from brown cardboard – brown E’s – get it?

All you need for this simple activity is:
brown cardboard
pencil
scissors
plate

How to make April Fool’s Day brownies

Take your brown card and draw a large letter E on each one. Cut out the letters, I made four large letter E’s.

Place the brown E’s on a plate and call out to your hungry children and see if they would like some brownies. This is where my 8 year old promptly burst into tears as she really did want some brownies! Thankfully my 10 year old saw the funny side of the joke!

I guess I’ll be making real chocolate brownies to make it up to my daughter this week!

This is such a good idea – I’m 100% banking it for next year! And now I’m going to go and make some actual brownies…
